Noise on Shutdown

Happy with my pc now I've had it a week. Been having some issues with the old external HDD I have plugged in via usb not being recognised but seems OK at present.

One little thing though - I am getting a short burst of noise, like feedback or "white noise" when I shutdown the machine, usually last thing before it powers down.

Any ideas?

Noise comes from speakers. Doesn't happen every time but a few times over last few days.

Last time I shut down I had disconnected external drive and it didn't happen.

Are your speakers powered by PC or they're on separated power cord?
If you plug headphones does the same thing happen?
What's the wattage of your PSU ?

Speakers are on separate power. PSU is 650W. Haven't got headphones.

Could it be related to the hard drive. Just that it's been playing up a bit since I got new PC and went to Windows 7.

Are you using an soundcard? If so check to see if all the drivers are updated.

Also its a long shot but check to see if windows 7 is fully updated? through windows update, sometimes it can cause random problems when it isn't fully updated.

You mentioned you HDD? erm maybe give it a virus/baddie scan just to check if any sinister is hiding in there causing problems.
