Non Gaming Laptop

Need a new laptop to replace my Lenovo which is showing signs of aging , 17" screen . Looking to downsize for something more portable & lighter . Mostly be used to used for general home use , browsing, emails, watching Netflix etc & storing photos . How much space does Windows take up take up & will 250GB be adequate for my basic needs?

Will you be storing photo's directly on the laptop itself? How many photo's do you want to store and how much space do you think you'll need for that? 250Gb isn't very big.

I'd guestimate windows requiring between 25-30Gb, google suggested something like 25-40Gb but as you'll be going for Win 10 Home its probably not at the higher end of drive space requirements.

My Windows 10 system and a bunch of third party applications occupies 45.2GB.

250GB is tiny by today's standards, if you're talking about high-res photos even a jpeg compressed image can be 5MB. Given your stated uses I'd suggest that a 128GB M.2 NVME SSD for Windows and programs will be plenty good enough, with what you save look at a 512GB HDD, or if you can a 1TB HDD. Ideally you'll want a 7200rpm HDD, especially if you're storing images, but since HDDs are relatively cheap and easy to swap out a 512GB 5400rpm HDD will do for now and you can save up to swap it for a 1TB 7200rpm HDD in the near future.

Thanks for the replies , about 200 photos to transfer from the Lenovo laptop which are also saved on my PC. and a external HD
