Hello,

Yesterday i fiddled a bit with undervolting but i don't know if that can be the problem.
When i try to turn on my laptop the screen stays black the keyboard lits up and the power button and far left button (a speedmeter icon or something) stay luminated. Then after about 10 or 15 seconds the laptop shuts down

i tried the following already

Remove battery and hold button 30 secs
Remove cmos battery for a while to reset it
Removed CPU and reapplied dried up paste
Removed GPU and hoping to boot on intel GPU but also nothing also reapplied paste
Removed and switched around RAM a bit

I hope someone can tell me what the problem might be

Thank you very much

If you have an Intel i-core CPU they can't be undervolted. How much fiddling about did you do? What exactly did you to to try to undervolt the CPU?

I used to successfully undervolt an Intel Centrino CPU so I know how the process works.

Hi! thanks for your help
I used intel XTU so i thought it wouldnt do much harm from intel itself
And always after rebooting the settings went back to default but on the last try i changed some more settings and didnt restart
Then i shut down the laptop and now a day later it wont turn on

Make sure you did the cmos reset properly.

Can you go into the bios and put things back to default?

cant access bios.
how to properly do the cmos battery remove?
i removed the cable from the board and waited a while and pressed the power button

Edit

I'm going to work now so can't reply until tomorrow
All suggestions are welcome

CMOS battery is located under the keyboard. To take up the keyboard follow these steps!

  • Power off
  • Remove the LED strip above the keyboard (it just pulls off).
  • This exposes 5 screws.
  • Remove these.
  • Lift up the keyboard from this edge.
  • CMOS battery is located in the exposed area, remove it or disconnect its black and red wire.
  • Disconnect the laptop battery.
  • Remove the Power Lead.
  • Wait for a minute.
  • Repeat in reverse.

I agree that removing the CMOS battery (it's one of those round coin-type batteries) for a few minutes and then replacing it again should get you sorted.

as i said in the main post i already tried the CMOS remove

Its very odd though i found a workaround
Without charger it keeps derping. when i plug in the charger it initially does the same then shuts down then boots itself up again without problem
The battery isnt broken and once the laptop is booted i can remove the charger.

What might this indicate?
Maybe it the the underclock? that the cpu doesnt geen enough power and that with charger it takes the power it needs?

You have uninstalled the underclock software I trust?

the settings restored back to default but havnt rebooted yet to test. will update when i try again

I would get rid of it completely, you can't be sure what effect it's having as long as it's still there.

Personally I'd have taken a disk image of the system disk before playing with something as potentially challenging as undervolting. That way, when you got the black screen, you could have restored your original (working) system and been running again.

Crystal balls are great aren't they? Wish i had one before i did something that was going to work out wrong!

Yes I know, but mistakes are how we and others learn stuff. Hopefully that comment will have helped someone else. :)
