Nuances in the prices

I added up all of individual prices of the components I will be getting, where their price is known and came to a figure of £1254. However, the total price is £1450 (if I take off the Platinum warranty).

What is the extra cost? For them to build it etc? And do you not think this should be mentioned?

I'd assume it covers the lifetime hardware technical support you receive, labour cost for 3 years as well as having an experienced builders putting the parts together.

Remember that you do not know the prices that PCS are paying for many of the components either since they are not specified for a lot of the components on the configurator (mainly cos the prices can change often due to the pound-dollar conversion rate if nothing else)

Yeah I figured that but I don't know what those components are...USB slots? Maybe a couple of spare connectors thrown in.

I'd doubt its for USB slots etc., unless you specified an additional USB controller.

(EDIT) As Rakk just said, the price for everything isn't on the customisers I don't think? How did you come up with your figure of £1254? On a side note an interesting exercise I carried out when I was ordering my rig was to check amazon etc. for the components I was ordering. PCS turned out to be cheaper (including warranty etc.)! I think I didn't even take delivery into account for the components either!

I got the prices by going to "amend order" and just checking all of the prices that were possible. So I managed to get the case, cpu, mobo, ram, both ssd and hdd, psu, cpu cooler and paste thing, dvd drive and windows 7. I also checked Amazon and the price there is £1329. I think the extra £120 is worth it in the long run, I wa sjust wondering what the other 110 is for.

It definitely will be worth it.

I guess if its anything it will be a slight mark-up on the components installed which is entirely reasonable considering its being built and PCS are assuming all risk in that respect (ie if a component fails and its due to mis-installation they will replace it - obviously not the case if you install something yourself :))

Still a bit puzzled as to how you get the prices for some of the items. For a lot of them you can work out the price by comparing it to the (no item) alternative. And for some of them (e.g. power supplies and cooling systems) there is an option with a price so you can easily see it.

But that doesn't work for CPUs or Motherboards, so as far as I can tell there is no way to tell the price for those - all you can work out is the cost of each upgrade over the cheapest model, but not the cost of the cheapest model itself.

It does work for the CPU and motherboards. Once you make an order, go to "amend order". Tick the box on the right and change whatever you had to something else. Then there is a question mark below that explains the price difference - it gives the prices of both the original and the amended item. You can do this for everything apart from that which cannot be changed.
