Will the PCI-e M.2 drive be significantly faster than a regular SSD using SATA? The website does not state in the detailed specifications exactly WHAT KIND of PCI-e port the M.2 is on the Octane II. Is it X2? X4? v2? v3?
It's so confusing now. There's even NVMe which is supposed to be the fastest i.e. a genuine tangible noticeable difference between SSD SATA and NVMe. Not sure about regular PCI-e M.2 If it's just the usual 500-530Mbs as any other SATA, I think I'll stick with a 2TB Samsung SSD as the C drive. If the Octane II 17.3" offered a 4K panel option, I'd order one today.

I've got the Defiance with the PCI as the main boot drive and compared to my previous laptop with a standard Samsung SSD the boot times are pretty much identical. I'd have to get the stopwatch out to figure out what is quicker so there's not much in it. How it performs on other programs i don't know but so far i can't see much difference.

The M.2 SSDs are probably more useful in the sense that they free up a slot for mass storage.
