Octane III display panel dilemma - 4k or 1080/g-sync?

Hi folks,

I am looking at the Octane III (17.3") as my next laptop. Whilst I am fairly sure on the final specs (see below) I am really torn as to which display panel to go with - 1080 (with g-sync) or 4k (no g-sync.....yet)?

On the one hand, if I go with the standard 1080p screen I get definite g-sync support. However this laptop will need to last me the next 3 to 4 years and I try and future proof my laptop as well as my budget affords. So in that sense, I feel like I should go for the 4k display but the lack of g-sync support is a big spanner in the works.

Does anyone know if there's a chance that the Octane III's 4k panel (AUO B173ZAN01.1) will eventually added to the approved g-sync list, and if so when?

Any advice would be most welcome! I know others have commented on this in the past, but I still feel unsure.

If you're only going to have a 1920x1080 screen, a GTX 1080 is a waste of money and huge overkill. The GTX 1070 is more than enough for 1080p gaming.

Only get the GTX1080 if you're going to pair it with a 4K screen.
