In order to compare properly with the Defiance V (see my related spec here: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?60324-My-new-Gaming-Laptop&p=421503) , I have the following questions:

  • AS far I understood, the i5-8400 should have same gaming performance as the Defiance i7-8750H, is it so?
  • Is this coupling between processor and GTX 1070 OC balanced?
  • Is the RGB keyboard customizable, i.e. can i choose which keys are highlighted?
  • I'm playing WOT mostly, is the screen set with G-Sync at 144 HZ suitable for this configuration (with margins, I hope)
  • No temperature issues?

Thanks in advance for your help, feel free to give your suggestions

Is the silver warranty worth it if you're in Italy? AFAIK the 'collect and return' service is UK only. That may also be the case for the dead pixel warranty too. I would check with PCS directly on that.

If i remember correctly when saving the configuration I got a pop up confirming that for the dead pixel warranty it's as you say, no coverage for return service, though it's worth the money anyhow for the pure dead pixel warranty. Thank you very much if you are double checking!

By the way, should I expect some duty or extra VAT for having this good from UK already after announced Brexit (sorry for the silly question but...)

The UK is still in the EU, so the price including VAT (or Italy's equivalent of VAT) that is listed should be the final price you pay. That should be the case certainly until late March 2019.

The Octane is much larger than the Defiance and heavier.

I'm not sure if the i5 8400 is literally equivalent to the 8750H, but it's one of the best desktop gaming CPUs available (even beating out the top end i7 7700k from last generation very slightly) so should be more than enough.

It is odd seeing someone buy an Octane with only an i5 and a GTX 1070, as the chassis is usually favoured by people looking for a full desktop i7 CPU and a GTX 1080.

Thank you for your reply.
Dimension and weight are not an issue, I'm looking for a kinda "desktop replacement" that can be closed and moved easily at home, not for a real portable gaming Laptop.
The temp issues of defiance V you told first me about, led me to think about Octane chassis, which is probably even too comfortable for my configuration, but my target was to keep the price below 2000 Euro and I'm already around 2250.
It's just for the temp issues, if some happy user of Defiance 5 could confirm that it works fine and the high temperature problems happen sporadically just for a few cases, I would go for that one instead (I would save 400 euro with similar spec)

I am sure most Defiance 5 users find the tems fine.

There is a high volume of complaints on these forums about the Defiance V relative to other chassis - but it's still only a handful and I assume PCS have sold hundreds of them.

If it is just for use / mobile gaming within your home, you could look at buying a desktop and a cheap laptop and using steam in-home streaming. Which lets one PC run a game and another PC control the game. https://store.steampowered.com/streaming/

Works with almost all non-steam games too, that I've tried anyway.

Hello,
I didn't investigate yet for the streaming, I understood the idea, but for personal reason I would prefer the standard way. Now I have a full picture of the options, I will think about.
Thanks for your support, still open to any further suggestion, my target is to run World of Tanks 1080p full details on 17" inch monitor, with some margin
