oh no! what happened to the Inferno?

I was ready to buy a small lightweight but powerful Inferno (I travel quite a bit, use Linux and work on the hoof) - but it seems to have been replaced by a low-spec Gemini (which doesn't match what I need)

Does anyone know if there will be an Inferno successor?
  • or is the next smallest/powerful laptop the UltraNote 14" or SkyFire 13.3?
  • The problem with the Ultranote is that the screen has a pretty low resolution, specially for development...
  • My preference would be for an Inferno 11.6 with 1600x900 and high power cpu, lots of memory etc.
  • SkyFire III looks like a good bet but is the same price as the new Dell XPS 11 and XPS 13.

thanks Yamikotai, I noticed that after i had posted it!

The only thing I wasn't sure of is that the 14" screen on the SkyFire III seems to reach closer to the edge of the bezel edge whereas the Optimus has quite a think bezel round the screen. but yes, the screen resolution is way better. I'll probably be looking closely at the new Dell XPS 11 vs the Optimus V - The main disadvantage of the Dell XPS is that it doesn't have a LAN port or USB ports!!

it would be good to hear if there is an Inferno replacement though, because I'd probably wait for that.

I currently mainly use my Dell XPS M1330N (The Linux special they did a few years ago)

Unfortunately the 11.6" Inferno has been discontinued - period. The 13.3" Optimus is the replacement whereas the 11.6" Gemini is a different kettle of fish as it's a notebook/tablet hybrid. The 11.6" Inferno was a popular chassis and designed for gaming, but the 13.3" Optimus is only a small amount bigger and even more powerful!

Hi this Gemini looks very nice and I am tossing a coin whether to order this and support a UK based company (PC Specialist) or to go for a new device coming out from one of the world's largest companies.

The problem is that the Pro 2 is Haswell powered which I have been told makes a noticeable difference.

Is there any chance Gemini could have an additional Haswell option?
