Opinions please

Hello everyone,

recently came across PCS on a general late night searching for everything and anything. Shortly after visiting the PCS website my computer crashed and died. Conspiracy? Maybe :turned:

So, i took the plunge and have bought a new pc on finance as it came around all of a sudden and need a new pc.

I took it upon myself to order a decent pc for gaming. As mine was a good 5/6 years old.

I've been looking through the forums ever since i ordered my pc, drowling over everyone elses... As the title explains, i'd just like an opinion on the pc i've ordered and whether or not i need to change anything on it. As it's not even in build stage i think i can change things on it? i think.

Currently I've ordered:

PCS MAELSTROM T900 BLACK GAMING CASE
Processor (CPU) Intel® Core™i7-2600k Quad Core (3.40GHz, 8MB Cache) + HD Graphics

Motherboard ASUS® P8Z68-V LX: USB 3.0, SATA 6GBs, ATI®CrossFireX

Memory - 1st Hard Disk 1TB SATA-II 3-Gb/s HARD DRIVE WITH 32MB CACHE (7,200rpm)

1st DVD/BLU-RAY Drive 24x DUAL LAYER DVD WRITER ±R/±RW/RAM

Network Facilities 10/100/1000 GIGABIT LAN PORT - AS STANDARD ON ALL PCs

USB Options 6 x USB 2.0 PORTS @ BACK PANEL (MIN 2 FRONT PORTS) AS STANDARD

This seems to me at a good pc? I'm not sure. I know a little bit about computers, not lots but a little bit. I wanted a pc that i could game on (battlefield, Crysis etc) on high and something that was under 1000 pounds.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Lewis

(YAY! my first post)

Hello,

Welcome to PCS!
The first recommendation id make is to change the PSU to the CORSAIR 650W ENTHUSIAST SERIES™ TX650 V2-80 PLUS® BRONZE and change the Hard drive to the 1TB WD CAVIAR BLACK WD1002FAEX, SATA 6 Gb/s, 64MB CACHE (7200rpm).

Both of these changes will bring better stability to the system. Put the cooler to the TITAN Fenrir for improved cooling too.

As on a side note PCS do offer high quality, pre-built computers ready for same day dispatch. This one could fit you perfectly: http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/computers-for-next-day-delivery/65/ It comes to £978.00 inc VAT and Delivery. WITH Silver Warranty. You MUST get Silver Warranty, for £5 extra you get 1 year cover longer than standard, You can change your whole pc spec when its not in the build stage too :)

These are just my recommendations, other members will come back and post their opinions too shortly. Well get the best PC out of your budget :)

Ben

Intel are faster but cost more, AMD are more "bang for your buck", Make sure you add a Silver Warranty to that system. its £5 extra, apart from that, that pc will rule!

Intels are faster but more expensive. I'd suggest Xoil intel spec but without the k variant for the 2500 as you wont be over clocking and the triple cooler. This will save you money and not affect the performance. You could also drop the motherboard down to the lx version if your not planning on a dual video card setup. With the savings you could get a better graphics card like an 6970 maybe? If you are considering a dual video card setup or crossfire lol then you should consider upgrading to an 850w power supply to accommodate it.
