Optical Drive HDD Caddy

Hi All,

I've just received my 15.6" Vortex 3. Very excited to get started with it.

As part of it I ordered the Optical Drive HDD Caddy instead of an Optical drive with the intention of putting a 180GB SSD in it. When installing the drive, I cannot see any way of screwing/securing the drive in place. There are some small holes (smaller than the holes on the SSD) on one side, but they don't go all the way through anyway.

Does anyone know how I should be securing the drive in place? Currently it's just held on my the SATA/power connectors and can rattle around :/

Not that this really shows anything useful, but I feel like I should have a photo:

Any advice is much appreciated.

Cheers,
Dan.

i think i have just the thing for you... GAFFA TAPE :)

sorry but i couldnt resist. I use gaffa tape on my ssd at the moment because i dont have any more hd slots in my case so i stuck it to the side of my hd caddy (antec 300).

Your problem does look tricky, there are no screw holes for it to be screwed into so i cant see how it is meant to be screwed in other than its not and its just designed to sit there.

There should be a bit of plastic that slots between the back of the ssd and the laptop to wedge it in place.

Hi,

Thanks for the comments.

I got something similar to this on the drive in the primary drive. It is a clear piece of plastic that cover the bottom side of the drive and has 2 strips of foam stuck to it.
I didn't get anything similar to use on the Optical drive HDD caddy :(.

I'm actually thinking the same but with electrical tape. I might try to get some confirmation from PCS that the caddy is a bad design first and not just me doing something wrong / missing something.

Thanks,
Dan.
