Optimus II can't play blueray (no image just sound)

Hi all,

I am disappointed with my Optimus II as I bought it with a blueray player to play movies while I am on the move, and so far I could not watch anything.
The Optimus II come with Cyberlink Power dvd 8 to play the bluerays. But what I get is just grey or green screens, with sounds and menus, but no images (just grey).
I updated the Nvidia drivers of the cards and tried to force Power dvd to use the GPU instead of the automated optimus II switch, but it does not work (power dvd always read the dvd with the intel graphics). Also I don't know is this is related to my problem.

I would appreciate if somone of PC Specialist can tell me what to do, or somone else with more knowledge than me. I think it is a let down as I travel a lot profesionnaly and whant to enjoy movies while I am on the move.

Thank you in advance

Thomas

It seems that you may not have the correct codecs installed. Codecs are what allow the video to be decoded and displayed. Ive not really looked into Bluray codecs as I dont tend to play blurays on my pc, but try doing a bit of searching on google for blu ray codecs.

ok thank you.
But is it not something that PowerDVD 8 should provide for? I mean, if it is delivered for you to play dvd, surely it should have the proper codecs to do so? Anyway, I have already installed the K-Light codec pack. But I will still look online if there is something else. Thanks

yeah i mean normally something like powerdvd should play them, infact I think on my PC it does. so it may be another issue. Codescs is always a good first try though if you get sound and not video.

OK I will look. But I have the K light codec installed and tried to play a blue ray using MPC Home Cinema with no success. I wonder if it is not this Optimus II graphic card switching thing that does not work properly

yes I installed Power DVD 11 Ultra and it worked traight away.
What I am disapointed in is PC Speciallst providing Power DVD 8 with Blue Ray Disc Suit and it does not work. What the point? Once again I was hoping my laptop to work straight out of the box and no, I had to search around and post here to get a solution. :(

Thank you Vanthus and Frenchy for your help :))

Almost certainly it was provided to allow standard DVD's to be played.

Its the same with windows when it is originally installed (XP) a lot of people ahve trouble playing DVD's through windows media player. A lot may say its pointless including it, however for those who want to listen to music its a valuable bit of software.

PowerDVD 8 is indeed provided to play Blu-Ray,it does so no problem with my PC,
Unfortunately powerDVD 8 seems to have a compatibility problem with some graphics cards.
