Go for SkyFire II instead, with a GTX670m, if you want to play games and have a £1000 budget. The other option is dropping the SSD and only leaving the normal 7200rpm HDD. Then either invest in a better CPU, or save the money to buy more games. I see no reason to buy a SSD for gaming, since it doesn't improve performance, it just reduces load times.

CPU is fine for gaming, only a few games are heavily CPU reliant. As far as i know the only benefit i7 gives you is hyper threading which again and i stand to be corrected will not have a big impact on games.

Throw all your spare budget into the best GPU you can afford.

hmm. I've heard that newer games are getting boost from hyper threading. Maybe i7 would be more future proof?

I have no doubt that it games will be coded to benefit from hyper threading at some stage but have you any idea when?

Bearing in mind they took an absolute age to benefit from multi-cores when they first come out to. Your certainly going some way to future proof yourself but a laptops gaming life is very limited anyway and can only realistically look at the next 1-2 years in front before some new games won't run at all, or at least dipping regularly below a playable 30 FPS.

Ok, then how about this one? Almost the same price :) + I can add aftermarket SSD, but I think Seagate Momentus XT will be good enough.

your second build looks very good, but i would drop to standard wireless unless your broadband exceeds the speed of the standars one.

Also, what is Optimus Mode?

get silver waranty, you could drop to 3610 not notice much difference in performance but a significant reduction in cost, also optimus is a feature where u click the optimus button and it forces the system to use the intel integrated graphics when your not doing anything graphicaly intense, to save battery.
