Optimus IV No Longer Booting Up! Help

Hi there,

So i have a 17inch Optimus IV that i got in 2013 and recently it started acting weird. So once you click the power on the lights come on, the fans spin but before the screen comes on everything shuts off. If i leave it alone for a while eventually it will boot but then if i restart, it will shutdown and not come back on. Then clicking the power does same again.

What could this be?

Thanks in advance

This could be a dead battery. Have you tried it on mains power with the battery removed?

You might also try a soft reset. Take the battery out and disconnect the charger. Now hold the ON button down for 60 seconds. Then, leaving the battery out, connect the charger and see whether it will boot. If it does reconnect the battery and see whether it will boot.

Before you do the soft reset though, I would suggest you leave the battery on charge for 24 hours minimum and leave the laptop shut down and off during that entire period. This will make sure the battery is a s fully charged as it can be.

I had tried it on mains power and the problem still persisted.
I then tried the soft reset but now when it comes on (battery or mains) the lights come on and fans spin. but the screen remains black and hdd LED is off. and it remains like that.

That doesn't sound good. Can you boot it from a DVD (try the Windows installation DVD). Also try plugging in an external monitor.

Tried another monitor. Still nothing. I can't boot from anything cause there's no bios start screen. The screen just remains black and HDD light is solid for a second then off.

I'm afraid that sounds like hardware and on a laptop that can be expensive. Your best bet is to give PCS a call (don't email) and talk this through with them. I think you'll be needing an RMA.

Last ditch attempt would be to replace the backup battery for the BIOS. I've had an old laptop that failed to do anything when the battery BIOS battery died, replacing it fixed it, worth a try.
