Optimus IV touchpad warn - any thoughts

Hi all,

My (now 1 year old) Optimus IV started to show wear on the touchpad surprisingly quickly - a black oval about an inch across. It looks pretty bad given rest of the cases is pretty much as new.
Not had this happen on work laptops so was wondering if there is any solution - can you cover it? can you "buff" it back somehow?

have you tried cleaning it with a damp microfiber cloth? otherwise if its just worn through the paint im not sure how much can be done, im afraid im no expert on thix
