OPTIMUS PRO XI vs 17.3" DEFIANCE VII - AMD vs Intel?

Hey! I recently ordered a Desktop through PCS, and after a really great experience I would like to use them again for my partner's laptop.

I was always heavily recommended AMD CPU's for my desktop build, is it the same for laptop builds? The two listed in the title are the two I was mainly looking at.

Budget ~ £1400.
Use: Gaming mainly, the likes of World of Warcraft and a few others. A heavy amount of web browsing and light work. Want something fairly future proof, if such thing exists with laptops o_O

This was the first build I considered:

This was the first build I considered:

Memory (RAM)
16GB Corsair 2666MHz SODIMM DDR4 (1 x 16GB) Consider 2 x 8MB rather than 1 x 16MB

1st M.2 SSD Drive
2TB SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2, PCIe NVMe (up to 3500MB/R, 3300MB/W) Consider 2 x M.2 drives - get a 250mb as drive 1 for OS and then 2TB for games / files - will obviously increase price slightly more sorry but if you have problems with OS, then you dont lose your files and also helps with performance slightly

Anti-Virus
BullGuard™ Internet Security - Free 90 Day License inc. Gamer Mode - the advice is to remove this - windows Defender is sufficient - this is known to cause occassional issues apparently

Warranty
3 Year Standard Warranty (1 Month Collect & Return, 1 Year Parts, 3 Year Labour) - again will increase cost, but definitely consider 2 year warranty for just £69 - if anything goes wrong with graphics card or processor, this could result in a new motherboard needed

If you really want something that is going to be a bit more future-proof, maybe consider a DTR (desktop replacement) laptop. It's basically a beefy laptop that has AMD or Intel desktop CPUs inside and which are replaceable (not GPUs though), but you also need to understand the drawbacks of those type of laptops. I explained about them on the thread below:

The Nova chassis uses AMD desktop CPUs and would be around that price-point you're looking for, offering you better performance than the optimus or defiance. But if you're looking only for a 17" laptop, then that's not the case. You would need to go for the 17" Recoil (uses Intel desktop CPUs) to get a DTR, which is a lot more expensive.
