Optimus V 13.3" Screen does not come on upon re-opening lid

I received my new laptop about an hour ago. When I close the lid, and re open it, the screen does not come on. The computer is on because the keyboard is illuminated and so is the power button. The same happens when I put the computer into sleep mode via the power button.

I have also noticed some light leaking (possibly, not sure if that is the right term) on the startup screen as it is all black.

Please can anyone offer any advice?

The lid thing is almost certainly something you need to change in 'Power Options' in 'Control Panel', it'll be something like 'wake pc by opening lid'. At the minute it might be set to 'wake by pressing the power button'. Im not 100% sure as I don't have my laptop infront of me but its something like that. Someone will jump in here with a better description hopefully.

Light leaking, or Backlight bleed is quite common on laptop screens unfortunately. Take the best picture you can of it and send it to PCS if its bothering you, if it is quite severe, PCS may replace the screen.

Kruppsy is right. Check the power options and scroll down to the "Power Buttons and Lid" section. Ensure that you have the Lid Close Action set to Sleep, that way it will also wake the computer when opened.

Thanks for your replies, I already have set the option to sleep upon closing the lid and pressing the power button. Is there anything else that could solve this?

ETA: I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium.

Could it be something to do with the drivers?

Could it be to do with Hibernate & Sleep? If you're set to go into Hibernate your effectively turning it off, Sleep is just non critical things being turned off temporarily. As i say, I don't have mine in front of me so can't be too specific unfortunately but it'll more than likely be an option somewhere in 'Power Options', check 'Advanced' as well if its there. I doubt its to do with drivers, that'd be my absolute last port of call.

You could have a search through the 'Windows Seven' forums to see if there's anything there.

Edit: This thread does mention drivers, but I would check to see if any of the other things work first.

Thanks for the quick reply. I managed to fix the problem by reinstalling the drivers. Not sure why they weren't working but nevermind, problem solved! Thank you both for your help. :)
