optimus V program opening

Hi - ive recently purchased a Optimus V, I do some video editing and have downloaded Corel Videostudio X6 from the corel site. The installation all went through ok asking where to put files etc and added desktop icon. The installation wasn't interrupted and finished. When I now try to open the program via the desktop nothing happens. I have tried opening via the start menu as administrator but still nothing happens! Has anybody any ideas?

If it still won't open after restarting your PC I would try uninstalling then reinstalling the program.

You did enter your serial number correctly during the installation? An installation guide is at http://apps.corel.com/flash/vsx6/vsx6_esd_install.flv. It might be worth uninstalling and reinstallaing as vanthus says. Pay particular attention when entering your serial number.

After you double-click on the program icon to start Corel open the Task Manager and see whether the Corel task(s) are running. It might be that the program starts but doesn't initialise properly.

I would suggest that you sign in to the Corel website with your Corel userid and password and look for solutions there. Alternatively you can open a problem report with Corel. You certainly meet all the system requirements and if the installation went smoothly and you entered your serial number correctly then it's a Corel problem I think.

Edit: Make sure your firewall isn't blocking Corel, it may need to "phone home" on first activation.

Morning-quick update for you- well I have now tried uninstalling and re-installing from Corel Website, Running as administrator and Turning Antivirus and firewall fully off. The only way I can get anything to happen is when I right click the program in the start menu and i get a pop up asking if I want to let this program make changes to this computer. When i click yes the pop up disappears and nothing happens! I have checked the task manager and nothing is in there relating to Corel. Do you think its a software (corel) issue with it not opening or a sorft/hardware (laptop) issue not letting it open?

Are you trying to install the trial version or have you already bought and paid for a license?

I'm trying to install the trial to then buy the license, I had X4 on my old laptop so am wanting to upgrade to the newer one.

Ok. I'm just downloading the trial version now and I'll install it on a Windows 7 VM and let you know how that goes.... :)

After downloading the Corel Video Studio x6 trial version installation file (VSX6_Pro_TBYB.exe) I double-clicked it and the installation started. The installation proceeded normally, after I'd clicked the Finish button I double-clicked the desktop icon that had been installed and the application started. I didn't go past the initial registration screen because I don't want to be spammed by Corel, but everything worked and I was able to start the application.

During the install several other objects were installed; notably specific versions of the Microsoft C++ redistributables, these are required so if your security system prevented the installation of these you'd have problems.

My installation was on a Windows 8 system (I didn't have a Win7 VM handy) so I can only assume that there is a problem with your Windows system. You might try running the system file checker to ensure your critical Windows system files are intact. Open a command prompt and enter "sfc /scannow" (without the quotes). It takes a while to run and if it reports that errors were found which could not be corrected I'd suggest you do a clean re-install of Windows. It might also be worth running a disk check ("chkdsk /f") to be sure you don't have any filesystem or disk problems. It's also worth running a defrag, I've known there to be install problems in the past because of a heavily fragmented filesystem.

Some screenshots of my install are below. The first three are during the installation and the fourth is the initial registration screen that you get on launching Corel Video Studio Pro trial version.

That's great cheers, I have had the first 3 screen shots but not got as far as the 3rd. Ill try what you have suggested and see what happens.......
