Optimus V vs Vortex IV LE

Hi,

I was wandering if anyone could help? I am looking to buy a new gaming laptop in the next couple of weeks and I have built a specification which falls within my budget, which is around the £800 mark.

I was going for the Optimus V (£864 + Vat) , with the below specification. However, I have also been looking at the Vortex IV LE (£989.00 + Vat) with the exact same spec, also below, but there is a £125 difference. Why is this? Is it important to have the Vortex chasis for gaming? Will the Optimus provide sufficient cooling for example?

The vortex chassis allows you to upgrade your gpu and I believe it also offers better cooling than the optimus.

From what I've been told the main advantage of the vortex is the more powerful GPU option, backlit keyboard and improved cooling capability. If you're set on the GTX765 it is easy enough to invest into a good laptop cooler pad to make up for that.

There is also some SoundBlaster software included however I'm not too keen on the reviews I've read about that.. haven't used it myself though.

In my opinion the Optimus is the better chassis compared with the LE.

Optimus V Pros

• Same GPU as the Vortex (for less)
• Support for Two HDDS (without loosing ODD)
• My laptop
• 4th Generation CPU
• 700 Series GPU

Optimus V Cons

1. One cooling Fan
2. No Backlight on the keyboard

Vortex LE Pros

1. Better Cooling, 2 Fans

Vortex LE Cons

1. No Backlight
2. Only 1 HDD native support
3. Heavier

Thanks for the input guys, I am planning to make the plunge in the next week or so and go with the Optimus V! I am just deliberating whether it is worth spending the extra to have my primary boot drive as a SSD and then have a conventional HDD for storage. By all accounts it makes a big difference?

Not essential, if you are compromising in other components I'd suggest dropping it.

Really? So you would suggest going with my previous quote (outlined at the start of the thread)? The new one, with the SSD is now £950.

Yep, I'd probably go with the dead pixel guarantee and at least silver warranty as well.
