Optomus XI usb c 3.1

Goodmorning
The 3.1 usb type c is advertised in pcspecialist ad a full type c connection on Optimus XI
So I bought a type c docking station (with vga, hdmi connectiin) and a portable monitor with type c connection
I Tried in the usb c connection Both the portable monitor and then a HDMI standard monitor with the docking ...
No video output on both case and error on the usb connection ...
Is the 3.1 type c a really full working connection?

USB-C = the connector type

USB3.1 = allows fast data transfer (compared to older versions USB1 / 2 etc)

It is a fully working fast data transfer USB-c 3.1 connector.

It does not do video. Are you thinking Thunderbolt (which uses USB-C connector)?

USB is purely a data port, nothing more, you've misunderstood what the port is, that's all, it's marked correctly, you just need to know the difference between different port types.

Anyone who understood ports, would know that was just a data port as it's correctly advertised, there's nothing wrong at all.

At last I asked to amazon for a change of the docking for a Minidp one ... and I,m connecting the portable monitor to the hdmi (+usb for power)
I was sure that the USB was a thunderbolt connectiin too like on my Surface

USB and thunderbolt are not the same.

Thunderbolt is carried OVER USB C but requires separate hardware.

Thunderbolt would be specifically named as such, it would list the port as a thunderbolt port, not USB C.

The way to look at it is that Type C (sometimes shown as USB-C thus causing confusion) is actually a CONNECTOR type NOT a transfer protocol.

In the USB world you have all of the above different connector TYPES.

Most will be familiar with the Standard-A - which above shows two (number 2 and 3) and the micro or mini ones (4 and 6) - these are ones you would see using your phones etc. Type B (7 and 8) used to be used for printer connections and some cameras I believe.

The early Standard A (number 2 - white) - would be the USB 1 and 2.0 slower data transfers and then came along USB 3 (3.0 / 3.1 Gen1 and 3.1 Gen2) - all data transfer protocols but various speeds (so to distinguish these from the older slower Standard A - they made them BLUE).

Type-C is just a different connection type and was introduced to be able to just literally plug it in anyway around you wanted - all the others had to go in a set way, but it doesnt matter which way TypeC goes in as it will do the same job either way around.

Its then the cable itself and the ports you are plugging into that determine what can be transferred via it and this is where you have to check the detailed specs to see exactly what it says. In the case of the Optimus it has only ever said USB3.0 and never Thunderbolt (well not for the several months I was looking at getting an Optimus Pro anyway).
