I would have went with a 7870 for the GPU, it's atleast as good as a GTX 580 and uses less power and it's cheaper by about £30 if i remember right. You can still change it right up until it goes for building, it's something i would consider but whatever you decide you will be gaming on max settings as soon as it is delivered.

Other than that you will be very pleased indeed.

You know I was very tempted indeed to go with the 7870 but the last couple of years ive had a lot of bad luck with ATI cards , my latest one the fan died on it and I just thought I would go with a change, I also thought for the special price PCS were doing it for it was worth a go, thx for the advice though :)

It is close but my sources say 7870 not much in it, also resolution and game dependant but for sure a 580 will serve you well

You're never too old to get excited about buying a new PC in my books! I am 26, but I plan to be doing the same when I am 60+ for as long as my hands and eyes are still up to it!

ive seen quite a few games perform terribly on these 7000 series, a 570 beats a 7970 on Crysis 2...

wozza you have to remember that the 7xxx series is fairly new, the GTX 5XX series have been out for a while and had plenty of time to get the drivers sorted out.

Is it mainly for gaming ? , if so & your not planning on doing any video editing / compressing etc . then drop the i7 to an i5 2500 , no need for the "K" processor unless overclocking & this is of little use for mainly gaming , i7 processors are not needed for gaming & can actually cause issues with some games as hardly any games even use the full 4 phyisical cores , let alone the virtual cores (& this is where issues with certain games come in to play) , battlefield 3 does in fact use virtual cores , but i have it maxed out completely & at 60fps at all times on an i5-2500k ( only have the k model in case later down the line i may need to overclock , just orderd it at stock 3.30ghz) & it plays perfectly ( although bear in mind to do this i have got 2 x gtx580s in sli , so if you dont get the same results it will be down to gpu configurations & not the processor)

So if you are infact mainly gaming you could save the cash on the processor & maybe spend it elsewhere (possibly on a bigger case , Coolermaster half X is great , loads of room for sli / crossfire etc , great airflow due to the 230mm front fan & the included single 200mm top exaust fan & the included 200mm side intake fan - you can in fact install another 200mm in the top if you like , i replaced the two 200mm & added another top 200mm In led type fans fans for only £50 (coolermaster actually do the exact fan models in led styles)

This way if you wanted to add another gtx 580 in sli in the future you would have the airflow needed as things can get a little hot in the case with two of them running something like battlefield 3 for example.

Although possibly for two gtx580s sli you may need to upgrade the power supply , i know its 600w for one , but i have the 1,200 w 80+ gold corsair psu , so i just shoved it in there without really needing to research what two of them need , but something tells me it is a touch over 750w , but i could be wrong.

Only reason i recommend the bigger case & maybe an extra 580 is because the 580s are so much cheaper now & with two of them in sli it trumps the 680 in minimum & max fps ,

So if you can streatch to the extra cash , drop the 17 to the i5 (maybe the "k" if you want to overclock later) & look in to another gtx 580 , a bigger psu & the coolermaster half X case.

I can promise you you will have a monster of a gaming rig that wil tear though everything in ths configuration ( even in the witcher 2 & this takes some doing )
