Overheating on Enigma II

Hi all,
I'm experiencing some overheating issues in certain games on my Enigma II (i7 720QM, 8Gb (2x4Gb) 500Gb 7200RPM HDD, Blu-Ray).

The games in question are Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Dragon Age II, Portal. Other games bring up the temp but not enough to trigger the problem...

...which is that it will get hot enough to automatically shut itself down instantly, just turns off as if someone had pulled the plug & battery. The highest temperatures I've seen CoreTemp reporting are low-90s, the laptop tends to be idling around 55-65. Are these what people would expect?

I always figured this would happen, I'm gonna buy myself some compressed air & open up the bottom to give it a blast.

Does anyone have any knowledge/experience with laptop cooling bases? Most of them look like they will make my wrists hurt! Any good ones anyone can recommend?

Thanks!

How long have you had the laptop.
Quite often where laptops are concerned, the fan outlet gets blocked with dust / fluff. It doesnt take a lot to cause overheating. If you feel confident enough, remove the back panel which gives access to the fan / heatsink etc and give it a clean.

Get HWmonitor to check up on your GPU temperature as well, If I'm not mistaken Enigma has just 1 fan for both heatsinks, so playing a game that has a heavy load on GPU and CPU can get things really hot. My OptimusI gets to the 90C on the latest games aswell, and I know its dust free (cleaned it). If you dont have a laptop stand you can put something under the lappys feet to give it more elevation (2 cm or more) this should knock a couple of degrees off.

Sorry to hijack the thread a little but is it possible to buy upgraded thermal paste for laptops, even though there's no choice to in the configuration page?
