It's been about 8yrs since I last had to think about partitioning. I have an Optimus III on order with the Seagate Momentus 500GB HDD in it. Initially this is going to be the only physical drive in my laptop, I'm just trying to work out the best way to configure/partition it etc. Currently having an SSD and HDD for data isnt an option due to cost (although could be in the future)
I anticipate installing a lot of old games as I'm quite fond of my classics (nothing overly space hogging by todays standards though) and I expect they will take a fair chunk of the space available. My current laptop (a work one) has been configured with all my data stored on a 2TB Seagate GoFlex NAS Drive at home with Picasa/iTunes configured to look at that (using it like a Client so that whether I'm on my work laptop or my partners laptop, all my files are in sync). It also means that when I'm away, I only have direct access to music via my iPod Touch and no access to my photo archives except via Seagates remote login feature (which can be quite slow.) So I want to be able to take music with me (not fussed about Video) and potentially my photo archive (12yrs worth, roughly 80GB-100GB)
Storage available to me:
Seagate 2TB GoFlex NAS Drive
500GB Seagate Momentus 500GB
So my questions are:
1) Can you think of a better setup to use with new laptop than I currently have?
2) Should I Partition my 500GB drive?
3) If Yes, how should I partition it and why?
