PC Failure

Got a pretty serious failure on my PCS desktop today but no idea what it was.

First my PC wouldn't boot past a black screen and then the Monitor would go into standby

Then when it eventually booted into windows it ran startup repair but told me it couldn't fix the problem.

Then it booted up to windows normally except where my normal ROG screen is displayed it showed an American Megatrends boot up screen

When I entered my Motherboard setup I found every utility on my board had been set to disabled and I had to enabled the all.

My system now seems fine but I still get AM screen on bootup instead of the ROG

My MB is a Asus ROG Maximus IV Extreme

As long as it is working fine I wouldn't worry. You can change the start up screen going to BIOS.

American Megatrends is the maker of your BIOS, it's quite usual to see the BIOS manufacturers splash screen at boot up. As keynes says, since it's working ok now I wouldn't worry over much. It might be worth opening it up and making sure that everything is seated properly and that all plugs are firmly in their sockets (including the switches).

If it happens again unplug everything that is connected to the PC (except the monitor, keyboard and mouse of course) just to be sure it's nothing external causing the problem (unlikely but worth checking). It might also be worth fitting a surge protector between your mains wall-socket and the PC mains plug.
