Any thoughts on this pc. Would be using various things like Adobe after effects, photoshop and possibly autodesk maya.
Had given some thought to pc using nvidia GeForce gtx 770 instead although not that interested in gaming.

What kind of budget do you have, an intel i7 would might be a better choice marginally though im not up with the latest benchmarks.

Originally had a budget of around £1500 but ideally trying to get as close to £1200 as it's for my son and he is paying for it out of his university bursary. If he spends too much he'll be pretty skint over the summer!

Not sure if the extra hard drive is worth it either?

I'm presuming this will have to last 4 years or so of fairly high intensity work?

I don't have the best working knowledge of the pro grade cards from Nvidia or AMD but i know you can substitute the GTX series for the Quadro cards for equal performance for less outlay in most cases. Get your son to have a look around the internet and see if a pro grade card is essential for his needs. if it isn't then grab the best GTX series card you can afford.

The above spec should be alright though, the AMD 8-core is a bit of a blunt tool but it is quite effective. If you had the budget i might recommend an i7 as its slightly better rounded but i think the spec above is about right given your budget and needs. Just look into the GTX series cards for your specific needs.

This is the other option I have come up with. I am tempted to go for the intel i7 and changing the graphics card to a GTX. I suspect that card should work reasonably well for most applications. I've trawled the internet and choice of graphics card seems to be a bit of a minefield anyway.

personally I'd go with the one above though I doubt you would have a huge performance delta whatever one you go for.

I would go for nvidia GTX. Adobe products are designed to take better advantage of some CUDA graphics cards. See link below

"Certain functions in After Effects CC are accelerated by the GPU in your computer using OpenGL,
including some Fast Previews settings for 3D compositions and the drawing
of images to the Composition, Footage, and Layer panels. Additionally, the Ray-traced 3D
rendering engine introduced in After Effects CS6 is massively accelerated by the presence of a
compatible CUDA-enabled NVIDIA graphics card or chip set. "
