PC Hardware issues...

I got my desktop delivered today and I can't seem to get a full 1080 resolution through my TV for some reason. The TV is fully HD capable but it's overlapping the screen and looks blurry when I choose the 1920x1080 resolution. I'm running a gtx 580 through an HD cable.

I also tried loading Star Wars the Old Republic and it won't seem to let me log into a character. I can create a new character but it won't let me play the game despite all the fixes that worked on my two old laptops... Where am I going wrong?

Your using an hdmi cable right? Hmm when you connect it to your tv, right click the desktop and select screen resolution. See what's recommend in the drop down box and choose 1920 * 1080. Try plugging the hdmi at the top port of the gtx 580. Finally try using a different hdmi cable. If it doesnt work after that then Im not too sure : )

Just to check a couple of things, make sure you are connected to the GPU and not the motherboard, try changing the resolution on both the windows "Appearance and Settings" and the "Nvidia control panel" also you could try a clean install of the latest drivers and make sure when you reinstall them if you already have the latest drivers you select "Advanced" and then check the box for "Clean Install" and last one does you screen have a DVI connection you can try, let us know how you go on with these and sorry but i don't play swtor so can't help with that.

Well, I was trying to change the resolution. No fix...

However, when I managed to repair SWTOR, I tried to load the game and all of a sudden I had no display and on rebooting, the graphics card has a code 43 on the device manager... I am not happy.

Oh I will do... Had my tech cousin on team viewer all night trying to fix drivers and nothing.

Might have to get a refund if the cards are that dodgy.

Remember that as with any tech stuff, every so often they do fail, just because one fails, doesn't mean they all will, it just means you got the unlucky one.
If it is a graphics card failure PCS would either be able to send you a replacement for it and guide you through how to repalce it or RMA the whole PC.

Note, until you've chatted to PCS don't assume it does need replacing, it may just be some settings that need fiddling with :)

Thanks Rakk. Maybe a bit hasty with my words but I spent nearly ten hours trying to solve the issue last night with a very skilled technician and by 4pm, the threads were a bit worn...

I'll phone a little later to see if I can get the matter resolved, although I'm not so sure if it's software or hardware. I tried numerous software updates, reinstalls, deleted the whole cards details and reapplied the drivers... It's a bit jarring when you can't find the problem. I'm aiming at a possible faulty card if it doesn't work after a factory reset.

Customer service is excellent i have to say... I wasn't even ready this morning before you phoned lol. I'll ring after 11am as I've got an appointment.

Thanks.

Just a bit of feedback because it's only courtesy to give feedback when you've had a good experience with customer services...

The problem was a faulty graphics card. It was the only option after extensive testing, driver reinstalls and factory resets. Luckily, PCS have a new card coming tomorrow in exchange for the broken one. I'm impressed with the level of customer care so far.

Thanks Jack.

I'm sitting on a 33' full HD TV now. Same as for you, HDMI cable is doing some kind of nonsense. Everything looks blurry and my eyes start hurting in 3 mins if I start using it. So I connected my PC to my TV using a DVI lead. And its running like a peach. As crisp as it can be. FYI I have a GTX480. However, its not my TVs fault as my PS3 is connected to the same TV using HDMI and it works perfectly fine.

Hi Bigmalky,

Nowadays HDTVs often allow up to 4 HDMI connections, however not every HDMI input supports up to 1080p. In many cases HDMI port 1 supports up to a maximum of 1366x768, resulting in your 1080p signal possibly being downscaled. It can also depend on the version of HDMI port your TV has.

Please give us the brand, make and model number of your TV. Try connecting your 580 to different HDMI ports if any are available to see if that helps. Have you had an opportunity to test a different screen?

I wish mine had a DVI in. I've resigned to running it on recommended it now. I'll need to save up and buy a monitor or hope the TV breaks down so I can get a new one. ;)

I tried all three ports on the TV and no luck. Once my son gets back from holiday, I'll ask if he can bring his monitor from his Grandad's to try it out.

Same thing happened to me. It in the end was nothing to do with the computer, or GPU settings, it was the TV settings.

I have to choose "Movie" Mode and not Dynamic/standard/Natural. ONLY Movie mode worked, every other setting looks blurry.
Also in my TV advanced settings, Certain things like Edge enhancement Was better when it is off then on.
