PCS complete rip off

Just received my Optimus VII and not only will it not boot but the supposed genuine windows 10 pro with DVD and licence I paid £109 for is actually an OEM recovery disc with no COA label so when I buy a new computer I cannot transfer the licence. It will be returned tomorrow for full refund and trading standards contacted.

Hello Haggis, sorry to hear about your boot up issue. Are you getting any splash screen, warning lights or beeps etc?

As for the Windows Disc it is a genuine copy of windows 10 and that is what you get with the majority of PC manufacturers.

I think you might be over reacting a little by jumping into TS threats. I would at least give PCS a call to discuss.

If you can give us more infomation regarding the boot problem we forum members would be glad to try and help.

you cannot transfer the license for any windows copy activated in a system you purchase since you get an OEM copy. Booting is something you could get sorted with technical support but it is your decision to return the system. As for contacting trading standards..... good luck :)

No OEM license is transferable to another system, that's standard, and any modern OS has the key injected into the BIOS. You don't get a COA label anymore. Again, that's standard across all manufacturers.

As others have said it's an OEM license and therefore can't be transferred, this is the same with 90% of laptop companies as far as i'm aware.

As for it not booting that's a different issue, but i'm sure it can be resolved if you're reasonable about it. Contacting trading standards won't do much either...

I don't see why you'd buy a copy of windows on your system just to transfer it?

The laptop is advertised as having a full version of windows 10. The price is also about that of the full version. The phrase full version is the generally excepted term for retail version, and is about twice the price of the OEM. Haggis2015 should of contacted pcs in the first instance, and then posted with their response.

Also just saying 'will not boot' is not helpful, get on to PCS, and let everyone know what happens please. I am about to purchase a laptop, and I expect to get what PCS specify, including the retail OS. Edit: a bit of googling and I am confused about 10 versions, looks like there is an 'n' version as well which is a cut down, which might make the OEM 'full', at a stretch?

So give PCS the chance to show that they have great customer service, then people like me will be confident about making a purchase.

Good luck finding a full retail copy for a mere £105 - the RRP is £180 and you won't find it much cheaper than that.

OEM copies, on the other hand, are readily available for £100-ish.

Bear in mind as well that once you've activated Windows 10 on a PC (OEM or otherwise) you can just download the full ISO from Microsoft if you need to reinstall.

(The canny way of doing it is to order a PC with no OS, then buy a cheap copy of Windows 7 Pro, OEM or otherwise. Install Windows 10 over the top and bam, you've saved yourself some cash.)

I thought it did, but it does not. I guess I read what I wanted to read rather than what was written.

I wonder if haggis2015 has sorted out his blue screen.
