PCS h80i Problems

Hi, I just got my new PC from PCS and I have been running some tests as I have the Corsair H80i installed, my processor is the 3570K non-overclocked (as I wanted to overclock myself)
Anyway the temps run at around 35 degrees when idle and as soon as I start prime 95 to test it the temps go upt0 the late 60's/early 70's instantly, this is worse temps than my hyper 212 evo and I have not even began to overclock yet...

Do you think I have a problem with how PCS have installed the h80i?

How long did you run prime for? Can you hear the H80 adjusting its speed to suit the increasing temps? What program were you using the check your temps?

It might be that the thermal paste needs more time to burn in? Although I cannot be sure about this. Maybe worth using the PC for a wee bit and then checking again in a week or so to see if the problems persist.

I ran prime for an hour, the temps got upto 75 degrees, no overclock, I tried the fan on different mode settings and the fans were deffinetly adjusting accordingly. I checked online and people are getting no more than 50 degrees on max load without an overclock and no more than 65 with a huge overclock in place. Do you think I should leave it on test for a long while to let it burn in?

I'd be wary of runningthe machine too hard mate, as there's either a problem with the CPU cooler or the installation thereof. I'd call them on monday and see what they say, though sadly it sounds like an RMA, as those temperatures are very high. If it were me I'd apply some new thermal paste just to see if that was the issue.

I think you should definitely give it a while before jumping to too many conclusions . Might be nothing (And if its something this will help diagnose it I'd say) -
What program are you using to determine your temps?

I've just had a look on the internet about recommended temps and it seems Intel run a lot hotter than AMD (who I've read a lot about recently having OC'd one of their CPUS.) The consensus was that 70 - 80 degrees is okay for a 3570k though I have to confess this seems hot to me as my 3570 non k runs around 50.

I use Coretemp, Real temp and Corsair link has its own tempreture reading. I can try replaceing the thermal paste but it seems annoying that I have to do that when PCS have built the machine which should mean its spot on, would replacing the thermal paste void the warrenty?

Replacing the thermal paste wouldn't void the warranty as long as no damage is caused to the system when repasting. I do not have the same cooler or CPU ( i7-2700k and coolit fatboy) but the temps you got are not high for the processor you have and similar to mine. When comparing to the hyper 212 do you compare it with the same CPU? Other components and case could cause difference in temps.

However I wouldn't jump the gun (so to speak) and just go replacing the paste. If you feel that its too risky to give it a wee while to see if it settles down then (as Blackdog suggested) give PCS a call today and see about requesting they send you some thermal paste and advice on how to clean the old paste off etc. (its easy to do but its best to get the word straight from PCS). They might advise you to do a few more checks first to make sure nothing is wrong.

Thanks for this, I will se how it goes over the next few day and play a few games ect. to let it settle in and see what happens from there. Cheers guys
