Planning on upgrading from my 8 year old machine. Will this good for my 1440p 165hz monitor?

So it's finally time to upgrade! I'm sick of super low FPS and think this will do the trick. Any opinions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Plus if anyone knows what kind of wait times are likely for the GPU that would be great too. I don't know much about SSDs either so opinions on that would be good as well. Thanks!

Hey there! Knowing the budget you have would be very useful! Also what sort of games do you plan to play?

No specific budget exactly, but around £1200 - £1400 I guess. I play all sorts, mostly rocket league as my competitive itch these days, I also play Deep Rock Galactic and recently Valheim. Sometimes ESO and Cyberpunk. I'd like to be able to play the next GTA, Elder Scrolls 6 and the next battlefield when they come out, but I'm happy to drop down to 1080p if the computer will struggle to get 100+ FPS on them when they come out. Cheers!

This is the build I'd recommend. At the higher end of your budget you'll be able to get a strong 1440p 144hz gaming PC

For the case I've chosen the Corsair 220T as it will replace the RGB strips you had with 3 included RGB fans, and is slightly less expensive than the Fractal Focus G
The 5600X is a fantastic gaming chip and represents great value for money these days
The 3060TI is a great card for 1440p 144hz monitors, whether it's capable of 165hz in some stuff, I'm unsure
I'd normally suggest a M.2 SSD and HDD for general files, but given the large file games you've mentioned, it might be worth going totally SSD for faster loading times. You may find 1TB total storage a little limiting but storage is very easy to add down the line if needed. You could also rejig the setup to include a 1-2TB HDD to store files or games that have less loading screens
The RMx 850W will help power the system comfortably and leave room for future upgrades
I'd recommend using an AIO to cool the 5600X so have gone for a Cooler Master 240 AIO, a great cooler for the money
The wireless card will handle 2.4 and 5Ghz WiFi and give you bluetooth
The sliver warranty is definitely worth it for £5

If you're totally decomissioning

Sounds good but is definitely pushing the budget. Do you really think the better CPU is worth the upgrade cost? The SSD and case sound good though. I'm also not too keen on the wait for the 3060ti, seem like people are waiting around 6 weeks currently. But I guess that can't be avoided with the GPU shortage at the moment :(

CPU wise you could definitely downgrade to a 3600 or XT, but I feel the 5600X and the 60TI will be a better pairing and as I said, it should give you more longevity as it's a newer chip. Don't get me wrong, the 3600's are still great CPU's and will do the job fine, just if it fits in the budget, I'd recommend the 5600X.

You could change to the 3060 GPU to reduce your wait time but this wouldn't match with your monitor all that well. Looking at some benchmarks the 3060 sits around 60-80fps for 1440p, which is still perfectly playable but no where near maximising your monitors potential. Also in the grand scheme of things, waiting a month or two for a PC that should last you 5+ years isn't very much time, so as much as it may suck to wait I'm sure you'll be happy you did when you do recieve it. It does also mean you'll be able to wait longer between GPU changes when the time comes. Short term spend for long term save in my books.

Alright you've convinced me, i'm going to order this build! I am still a couple of weeks away from affording it outright, but since the wait time will be a while anyway I've decided to finance it for now. If I pay it back in 12 months (easy, could get it in full in about 3 weeks anyway) then it only costs me a £29 early finish fee. Well worth £29 for me to get it three weeks sooner! Thanks for your help

Fantastic! I'm happy to hear! Let us know how you get on and if you have any questions feel free to ask. Once the PC arrives it would be great to see some pictures of it in SHOW OFF YOUR NEW COMPUTER!
