Should PCSpecialist offer the Intel Core i5-6260U and Intel Core i7-6560U as option?

Poll: Lafité II with Core i5/7 6x60U should be offered to double GPU processing power

Hey all,

As I doing final checks on my quote I found out I had been missing out on one very important detail.
I'm coming from a MacBook Air 11.6" Mid 2013 model, which runs on Windows and well, I wanted something bigger with a 1920*1080 IPS screen and the same computing power or more.
I knew the upgrade CPU wise would not be the most important thing for me, but upgrading the iGPU and having more ram would be something I could benefit from.
Now comes the important detail: the Intel Core i5-4250U inside my MBA has an HD5000 iGPU which is actually much faster than the Skylake HD 520 iGPU.

Which made me wonder, do more of you agree that PCSpecialist should offer the the Intel Core i5-6260U and Intel Core i7-6560U as upgrade options for the Lafite II?
Those CPU's would offer a lot bigger upgrading value over the i5 6200U & i7 6500U models which are offered and are also more energy efficient when not using the iGPU.
Last but not least, these 6x60U CPU's are only about 30$ more expensive then the the 6x00U CPU's.

So, who's with me and how to convince PCSpecialist to offer these CPU's?

HD Graphics 5000 – GT3, 40 execution units, 15 W TDP SKUs, up to 704 GFLOPS
HD Graphics 6000, GT3 – 48 execution units, up to 768 GFLOPS at 1 GHz
HD Graphics 520, GT2 – 24 execution units, up to 403.2 GFLOPS at 1.05 GHz
Iris Graphics 540, GT3e – 48 execution units with 64 MB of eDRAM
Iris Graphics 550, GT3e – 48 execution units with 64 MB of eDRAM (the same as 540 but with a higher maximum clock and TDP), up to 844.8 GFLOPS at 1.1 GHz
Link

So the 540 will be in between the HD 6000 and the 550. Which offers about twice as much processing power as the HD 520. While and even the HD5000 which is 2 years old offers 75% more processing power then the HD 520. And only for a few $/£/€ more!

(My point still stands but, maybe I am wrong about the HD 520 being slower then the HD5000? LINK)

I think you should contact PCS directly to look at potential upgrades, not sure if the CPU can be upgraded, and future options.

Hey,

I did send them an email but it is also useful to know if others would like this option. The socket is the same on these models so a CPU upgrade should be possible. New motherboards have to be bought by PCS because the CPU comes soldered on the motherboard, but that should not be a problem.

Somehow my whole original post is gone?

In short:
The i5 6200u and the i7 6500u both have the HD520 iGP, the Intel Core i5-6260U and Intel Core i7-6560U have the intel HD 540 iGPU.
The HD 520 is about as fast as the HD 5000 from the broadwell CPU's even though the HD 5000 has 40 execution units and the HD 520 has 24.
The HD 540 has 48 execution units, which in theory would make the iGPU twice as fast as the HD 520 which can be very useful for a lot of different tasks (simple games, photoshop, after effects, etc.).
Also, the i5-6260U and i7-6560U both have a lower base clock which results in more energy efficiency while using them for simple text editing and webbrowsing.
This won't stop them from being as powerful as the 6200U and 6500U when you need it. They actually have a higher turbo boost.
Oh, and these chips are only about 30$ more in tray so it shouldn't even cost much more!

Base Clock:
i5 6200U - 2.3Ghz
i5 6260U - 1.8Ghz
i7 6500U - 2.5Ghz
i7 6560U - 2.2Ghz

Turbo Boost:
i5 6200U - 2.8Ghz
i5 6260U - 2.9Ghz
i7 6500U - 3.1Ghz
i7 6560U - 3.2Ghz

So, better power effiency because of lower base clocks, about double the GPU processing power when needed and higher turbo boost for just a few $/€/‎£ more!
What do you think?

That's because when you're new your posts often get auto-moderated and wont be seen til they are approved, and this also applies to edits of previously approved posts, so it 'disappeared' when you edited it - it should be visible again.

Any news from PC Specialist whether they will be getting these in for the Lafité II? I read that Intel will be releasing these CPU's in Q1 2016 and I'm planning on buying a Lafité II so would hold out a few weeks/months otherwise.

Thanks.

I've contacted PCS about this, they were not able to confirm whether these CPU's will ever appear in the Lafité II.
A while ago I was close to ordering one with i5-6200U, but found out the HD 520 graphics perform terrible because of single-channel memory (which is the only option for the Lafité).
