Positioning of CPU Cooler

Just a random thought really but I have noticed that the CPU Cooler (Tripple Copper Heatpipe) is pointing downwards therefore would be blowing all that heat extracted from the CPU directly onto the back (exposed circuit board) of my Graphics card which is only a couple of centimetres apart from the fan, which obviously produces enough heat in itself.

I have checked the Temperatures and these seem fine the GPU never exceeds 60 Degrees but should I be concerend that over a period of time the heat generated from the CPU fan could cause any problems. Obviously I am no expert but I would have thought that ideally the CPU fan should be pointing towards the back of the PC?

Hi Lex,

It might be best if you could post a picture of your case internals so we can get a better look at it. If your temps are fine then I wouldn't worry too much :)

The CPU cooler may have been positioned that way due to your case and other components you have selected. As Grimezy mentioned contact PCS for an official response

I did take some photos with my mobile phone but was unable to attach the photos? As I mentioned the temperatures do seem OK and have never had any problems with the computer, but as the Graphics Card did cost me £400 I just want peace of mind really (the PCI (X16) socket they recommend is always situated next to the CPU which in itself is a bit daft). It maybe that as I didn't order the build with a GPU they may have thought it was OK? But I will contact PC Specialist tomorrow just for some reassurance that it's OK?

It's not facing this way?

No definetley facing downwards, as it is an oversight by PC Specialist I hope they will agree to remount the Cooler with the fan facing to the rear of the case and that I can send the PC back free of charge, I do have silver warranty and clearly it is their fault. Can you e-mail them directly rather than via phone. What I am thinking of is purchasing a more powerful air cooler which can handle overclocking as at least then, should I ever need or require to overclock I can do this, and asking them if they will fit it, but I'm not sure if they would do this free of charge? If it costs money then I will just stick with the Tripple Copper heatpipe.

it depends upon your spec mate, what motherboard have you got? some boards will only allow the cpu to be mounted with the fan facing up or down.

Chances are its too tight to fit it any other way, is the cooler very close to the edges of your case etc?

I can confirm that you are able to upload pictures :)

If you wouldn't mind, would you try to upload the pictures again? It would make this easier for us :). If they wont upload straight from your phone, copy them to the desktop first :)

hmm, looking at that, perhaps the ram is too tall and prevents the cooler being orientated horizontally .

I'd agree with Tom, its likely too tall to be oriented another way, you could flip the fan potentially so its blowing to the top of the case rather than to the bottom (if its not already oriented that way).

Oh dear that could be a problem then I will try and take a few more photos later if that helps but I wonder if it would be worthwhile having the fan pointing upwards, I guess at least it would be at least not blowing hot air over the GPU but then the hot air would be pushed down agan by the top fan.

i'd leave it where it is mate. otherwise you could mess up the internal airflow. End up with air going all over the shop. Ideally, you want it in the front/bottom and out the top/rear. As clean as possible. Its set at the moment so the cpu is exhausting straight out of the top of case. Pretty perfect really.

Looking at the Ram couldnt you just move them to the two end slots? I noticed that there are two red and two black slots the Ram is fitted into the Red slots do you have to leave a space between each Ram Card?

If it is not causing any issues why would you move it? I would leave it as it is, you can contact pcs for peace of mind if you wish but I remember a similar thread with an administrator explaining why they had to position it in an specific way.
