Power Adapter or GPU dead?

Hi, my laptop has recently been crashing very often. Initially usually under load, but recently has been happening more commonly.

Disconnecting the gpu my laptop now does not crash at all, however I am not sure it is the gpu that is failing as I have suspicions that the power adapter is failing but I am not sure. I suspect that it is likely that after disconnecting my gpu that since my laptop now draws less power, a faulty power adapter could supply enough power to it. However as I said, I am not sure whether it is my gpu that is dying or my adapter. I do not have access to another laptop gpu or another adapter of the same size, and I also can't just run my laptop off the battery as the battery died years ago, is there any test I can do to determine whether it is my gpu or my power adapter that is dying?

Thanks for any help.

You have to try with another compatible power adapter or go directly to a hardware service - I don't think there is a way to test if the GPU or the power adapter is faulty.

You can power it up without the graphics card connected and check the voltage output on the PCI-e connector, see if it's outputting the correct voltages.

Edit, just saw it's a laptop!

My gut feeling is that the PSU is fine.

Two things I would initially address:-

1. Buy a replacement battery pack. Not having a working battery in a laptop can cause power problems during high load spikes. Trust me on this one.

2. Check your temperatures with the GPU connected and maybe running some sort of stress test ie a game or a graphics benchmarking utility.
