Pre-Order Only components

What does 'pre-order only' mean? Presumably they don't have the parts in stock but there isn't any suggested lead time. For instance, i am looking at building a PC with an i5 8600k processor but it has a pre-order only. I don't want to have to place the order without knowing how long it's going to be before it can be built. Any info appreciated.

I would give PCS a call to confirm their lead times. It is interesting that selecting the ASUS Prime Mobo it tells you the approximate date it will be in when you select continue but not for the CPUS's.

What's your prospective spec? And budget + intended use?

The 8600k costs a heck of a lot more than the 8400 last time I looked, but doesn't offer very much more performance in games. So depending on your needs you might be able to dodge the preorder situation altogether.

There might be some other tweaks to look at as well to wring a bit better value out of the configurators :)

Regarding the 'pre-order' flag, I rather suspect (though I don't know) that this just means that your PC/laptop will not meet the build times shown on the website. It's a warning I think that your build will probably take longer than usual.

Hey guys has anyone heard anything more about this? I'm looking at getting an i5-8400 and notice this is pre-order only. Does anyone know how this might affect build times?

Calling PCS is really the only way to find out for sure.
