[Q] What are the self adhesive strips for ?

I just received my Optimus V 17" (hello baby !!!!!), and in the small bag with the user guides, there are some narrow self adhesive strips (could be used as feet / silencing / cushioning I guess), but no (obvious) indication as to why they are included in the packaging. Could anyone let me know if there is a particular role for them, or are they there simply in case I need them (and if they are included as a response to complaints / comments about issues with this model laptop, then more details on those issues please)

Hmm, PCS lump everything they get but don't use in your welcome pack. It wont be in response to any issues, if it were they would already be fitted, of that im fairly sure.

I wouldn't worry about them, this might sound stupid, but are you sure they're not stickers? Photos might help if your really interested in finding out what they are.

Thanks for the replies. They are not stickers. I have used these things before on the bottom of small speakers to stop them sliding around on the desk.

And the adhesive is only on one side, so no wall mounted laptop :)

They will have come bundled with either the chassis or one of the components (hard disk possibly in case you want to mount it in a caddy?). PCS just send you whatever gubbins came with your components in case you ever have a need for them. And to save cluttering up their rubbish bins of course!

File them away under "stuff that might be useful one day but which probably won't be"...

I reckon that's a guy thing. My dad taught me never to throw anything away that might prove useful. The big cellar of our last house was full of really useful stuff, although I never actually found a use for most of it. My wife was constantly at me to get rid of it all, which I had to do when we moved aboard the boat. Though even on here I have a fair bit of "useful stuff" squirrelled away in various nooks and crannies. The problem then of course is that when I need one of those useful bits, I know I have it on the boat but just where did I put it.......?

I've still got my "Welcome Pack" box from PCS. I think everything is still in it (manuals etc along with huge black feet (fnar fnar) for my case). As the others have said, I really wouldn't worry about it and just look at it this way...free stuff! (Who doesn't like free stuff?)

I'm always finding useful stuff under my bed. image.jpg
I should probably get rid of those ski boots though, they don't even fit me anymore.

I've been wondering that. Just opened up the HDD compartment as i'm considering swapping out the HDD and found the strips stuck to it. It's a thinner HDD so im guessing its used to provide extra padding and reduce vibrations / noise

Yeah they are for the second hard drive, used to secure it from moving and like Jazman said most likely for reduced vibrations and noise too. I have the Optimus V 15 inch and when inserting my secondary hard drive (SDD, which are also slimmer than HDDs usually) it moves a bit because it does not touch anything either side. My main fear was that it might come loose from the socket. So stuck some on either side and now it doesn't move around anymore. Although if you only have one hard drive and are not planning on getting a secondary one you cant just ignore them and extend your eyebrows ;)
