Quick question regarding Twin GPU's

Hi everyone,

I've placed an order for a 17.3" Omega Supreme which will have two Nvidia 680 GPU'S. Having searched on YouTube, I have found a review of a Sager gaming laptop which uses the exact Clevo chassis and is configured for twin GPU'S http://youtu.be/zvTVGNAlfgc

The reviewer showed a PSU splitter explaining that if you have twin GPU'S, two PSU'S are required to power the laptop.

If that is the case, I presume that PCS will provide two PSU'S?

As a side issue, the review on the whole was really positive :)

If it requires 2 then I would imagine PCS will indeed provide 2. Although looking at the pics/configurator it seems as if only 1 is required? Maybe they use a higher wattage powerpack?

I'm certainly not sure though, maybe someone else who's ordered one / who's more familiar with these can help?

Hi,

I have two 680m's in a Vortex III Elite and there is only one power brick for my laptop.

It is a chicony cpa09-022a

Hope this helps

Thanks Torgan, hopefully the laptop will only need a single PSU then?! My laptop is a similar spec to yours other than I will have a slightly faster CPU but yours has SSD's. How are you finding it? Does it handle most games/applications on Ultra high settings etc? Would be interested in your findings.

You've bought yourself a monster mate!

So far mine has not been taxed by anything, gobbling everything up on Ultra settings.

I would definitely recommend getting hold of the Nvidia Experience program http://www.geforce.co.uk/drivers/geforce-experience

This will scan your games and hardware and automatically set your GPU settings for optimal gameplay.

I was a bit concerned about temps before I received the laptop, but I don't have any issues at all. I only play games for an hour or two in one sitting but the chassis doesn't get hot in any way

I have attached a screenshot of my monitor so you can take a look. This was after playing Skyrim on Ultra.

Ideal, really looking forward to receiving the beast! Funnily enough I've just ordered Skyrim along with Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare & Farcry 3. I've already download the Nvidia app in anticipation! I would have liked to have ordered the SSD but I have already stretched my budget to £2600! I would need to get the 480Gb SSD really as I will have loads of applications & games etc but that would push the price to nearly £3000. I guess I can wait & buy an SSD in a few months time.

Aye, I started with a 120GB SSD and a secondary HDD, and then whenever I had a bit of spare cash or a deal popped up somewhere I gradually added the other SSD's. It certainly makes a huge difference in booting/loading times and I would never go back.

Hope your build time is nice and quick and i'm sure you'll love it

I've just downloaded Crysis 3 so off to see what that looks like...

After much deliberation I decided to take the plunge & upgrade to an Intel 520 series 480gb SSD :) As I have ordered a monster of a laptop, it seemed daft having a HDD which would be an 'achilles heel' to the overall spec. A good analogy would be like buying a Ferrari with a Ford engine!
