Rattling fan

You need to isolate which one it is first.

if its rattling then it could be catching on something, or it could be busted. In which case you need to fit a new one.

It doesn't do it all the time. I have a fan control and the sound makes no difference when I turn it off or on full. Doesn't seem like it's the CPU, so maybe the GPU?

I'll have to listen for it without the side cover in place.

if you can make the chassis fans spin at 0rpm then that will help diagnose it as being the GPU, CPU or PSU

If you use catalyst control centre to speed up the GPU fans does it get worse? What about if you work the CPU hard?

The only other place to look would be the PSU. Only way is to rip the side off and see if you can get an idea where the noise is.

Is the rattling noise consistent or only occurring at boot?. Sometimes a busted ball-bearing can cause that rattle noise in the larger case fans. As Mantadog said ripping the side off the comptuer is the best bet. removing the fans one by one from the motherboard (they are held in by a small pin connector.) until you can identify which is causing the rattle.
