I'm not up to date with new graphics cards or motherboards, and I've been meaning to give the SSD a try anyway, since steam is finally starting to support having games located on other drives than the one it's installed on. Would this be sufficient or is there any glaring errors or improvements anyone could give out?

Other stuff to mention - my old monitor still works, so I plan to continue on using that (1680x1050) and maybe get replacement later. I don't have any particular need to go dual screen, so one is fine for me.

Any particular reason for a socket 2011 board as a 1155 will be most likely more suited to your needs this will also be cheaper allowing a larger budget for your gpu.
Also why do you need the usb pci card as most modern motherboards are littered with usb ports i have 10 usb 2.0 and 2 usb 3.0 on mine, double what i really need.
Other than those points it looks a well balenced spec.

Other than the pointless USB card, it's good. Really good. Even a little overkill on the CPU side of things.

Don't know why your'e laughing at your "old" 2007 machine; this very computer I'm typing on is a 2004 Packard Bell iMedia with XP 32bit, a 2.6 GHz pentium 4 processor, 2Gb's RAM and an incredibly high-tech ATI Radeon x1330/1550 128MB AGP card. It's my gaming rig. I'm on this site look at other people's specs and I'm nearly done saving up to buy my own new PC.

Well, that's the cheapest motherboard option available to me, haha. I'm working off one of the 'build' models. I took off the USB card, but I do use the front ones often on my old PC. I'm leaning towards the Geforce GTX 670 as well, but I don't know the differences between the one from initial post and this one.

The gtx 670 outperforms the gtx 660 ti, for your budget I'd consider the i5-3570 (just for gaming?) + gtx 670 with a SLI capable motherboard.
