Reponse times and their effect on gaming?

There is a really nice monitor I want, 1440p, IPS, 165Hz refresh rate and topped off with G-Sync. However, it has a 4ms response time, how much will this make a difference. I'm currently using a 2ms response time to game, although I don't game professionally, though I do like Overwatch completitive :p

So I have two questions:

1. In general, is 4ms a slow response time and does it make a lot of difference?
2. Going from 2ms to 4ms, will I notice a major difference and will I be able to adjust easily if so?

Here's the monitor, it's from PCS.

Note: I probably won't be using the PC to game a lot, but enough to make it worth thinking about. I'll probably be using rendering and development programs, that's why I specifically want an IPS monitor because apparently that's quite important in the game dev industry since seeing true colours is important.

Thanks a lot!

The numbers quoted aren't the full picture. A bit like an "upto" speed you might see quoted for something. So there's no need to be concerned just because you're going from a 2ms to a 4ms one.

If your previous monitor had been particularly responsive, it would have probably advertise itself as 1ms - like every cheap £120 1080p 60hz monitor does.

It's not going to make a difference to your gaming experience. Maybe check some reviews of the monitor to get a sense of what to expect from it. I posted links to several here: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/foru...rdware-Reviews&p=397280&viewfull=1#post397280

PC Monitors' reviews always seem very detailed. As they put it:

Overall responsiveness was similar to the ViewSonic XG2703-GS, meaning that the monitor made a good go of high refresh rates up to 165Hz. There was a bit of extra trailing and hence perceived blur compared to fast TN models like the Dell S2716DG, but a huge decrease in perceived blur compared to even the fastest 60Hz LCDs.

So you're basically saying that going from 2ms to 4ms won't matter? I've heard they're just made up numbers anyway.

I'm also going with it since it is IPS which is useful, and the motion blur isn't as good as some, but it's better than others, so I'm happy with that.
