Returning faulty Pc without HDD

Hey guys, A few nights ago i woke up to my computer being powered down, this was strange since i left the computer on over night to download some things. After turning on my pc it started to power up, the fans turned on and what not but neither my mouse or keyboard lit up like they usually do and my monitor got no signal.

After looking around it seems like a motherboard issue but not being sure i wanted to return the whole pc, trouble with this is i'm still at college and i need to continue the work on hd and use the programs i have on it, would i be able to return the whole pc without my hd in it and the people at PcSpecialist install their own one? I would call and ask but i get home way after 5 every day at the moment.

If anyone knows it'd be much appreciated thanks.

I don't know the answer to the hard drive question, but they may accomodate you if you explain the situation about your college work being on it. If you can't call Mon-Fri 9-5pm then try to call Saturday 9-1pm (earlier the better so they can possibly get you to try a few things to get pc working).

You could also ask your question via email, but that might take a couple of days to get a reply.

In the meantime, have you had a look inside the pc to see if there is any signs of life when you attempt to power on (fans, lights on motherboard etc.). Do you have a card reader? My card reader always has a red light on when the pc is plugged in and turned on by the power switch at the back, whether the pc is powered up or not.

If there is no sign of any life at all:
- Try a different wall socket (or test it by plugging something else in).
- Try a different power cable if you can.
- Change the fuse in the power cable plug.

Did you check all connections are secure to hdd, power to motherboard etc.?

Do you have any motherboard LED's on? they are little red lights on the mobo. If there is a problem certain lights will light up/stay on you will have to look in the mobo manual to tell you what each one means.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Yeah there's power when i turn the Mobo on, the fans all power up but there's no beep noise like usual. Now that you mention it there is a red light on the mobo, i'll take a closer look at it tonight when i get home. Thanks for the help.
