Hi all,

Quick question. I received a Gigabyte 3070 that got RMA'd due to graphical glitches and artifacting, was replaced by a Zotac. Quick google search essentially comes back with "Gigabyte is the best, Zotac likely to catch fire and destroy your rig."

Do I have any say in this or is it something I just need to accept? I think I would have been fine with Zotac initially, but to have a Gigabyte in hand then to lose it has made me a sad panda.

what was your original order stated as - or was it 'unnamed' if you ordered a named 3070 then yes it would get replaced with a named, if in stock, but if it was (and probably was) an unnamed brand, then the repair / replacement has been completed.

You could always call and ask PCS, but I expect if you returned it to wait for a Gigabyte one, there is a long queue / waiting time as i expect its just what they can get it.

I've had a Zotac 2070 for 2 years or so from PCS and there's been no sign of fire yet 😂 But seriously- realisitcally, there's a very minimal difference between all the cards, especially when it comes to performance and a lot of it is down to personal preference. There might be slight difference in temps with the cooling solutions they each use but I'd hope the Zotac's don't just 'catch fire' and if they did, I'd trust PCS to stop using them as a supplier 😂

When it comes with anything to be done. If you installed any gigabyte software for the GPU I'd uninstall it and install Zotac's Firestorm software. Then make sure your drivers are up to date with GeForce experience. Apart from that, I'm not too sure, I'm not the best with all the after sales stuff!

Check the Ts & Cs at https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/terms/. They make this clear...

7.3 If you order a dedicated graphics card and the AIB (add-in-board) manufacturer name is not specified in the product description or on the final invoice, then you will receive a graphics card that meets the specification of the model/version stated. If the graphics card is exchanged under the warranty, then we will supply a graphics card that meets or exceeds the specification of the model/version stated. This model may be from a different AIB manufacturer and as a result the actual performance may be slightly higher or lower than the original model.

Gigabyte isn’t the best for sure (i’d probably give that to Asus), almost everyone i know that has RMA’d a 3070 (myself included) had a Gigabyte.

You can have a bad experience with any brand, but they all have warranty, as for setting on fire... 😬🤣

Gigabyte, which due to graphical glitches and artifacting had to be RMA'd didn't raise a suspicious and haven't changed your opinion towards them regarding to their reliability but a Zotac which you've never had before raised? That's an interesting one...

True. I guess listening to strangers on the internet is always a bad idea :D that's why I thought I'd ask you trustworthy fellows. Suppose ultimately I wanted reassurance - nobody likes to read the word 'fire' and 'computer' in the same sentence. Thanks chums!

Computers don’t routinely set on fire, i would imagine a cheap psu is the most likely though.

But with regards to a gpu... whether it is Zotac/MSI/Asus/Gigabyte etc, it is all the same tech, just different cooling and rgb etc - but a 3070 is still a 3070 no matter what.

Yes, but you’re all valued contributors who are regularly active on a forum devoted to this stuff, with a high ratio of likes/posts. As strangers go, you’re a group worth listening to. I think the problem lay with doing ‘a quick google’. The internet can be an endless well of disinformation

@Merke, I would trust the responses you’ve had here, and I doubt PC Specialist would’ve been partnering with Zotac for years and years if they had reason to doubt the quality of the cards they produce. Run some stress tests on the Zotac, if you’ve any issues with it’s performance let us know 🙂👍
