Router Range Problem

Hello I have a pc & Edimax 802.11n router both bought from pcspecialist.

I have a slightly larger than average bricks & mortar house.

My main pc uses a wired link to the router, my partners laptop is one floor below and directly under the router & gets a pretty good signal (3 bars).

My smart TV is one floor up and toward the back of the house about 20 feet away and it too gets a good signal (4 bars).

My smart PVR at the back of the house on the ground floor is the problem, its on top of my hi-fi, about 25 - 30 feet away (1 bar). Its difficult to see how I can put the PVR elsewhere because of the way that the wall mounted television wiring is run.

I understand that the BT Home Hub is best, but I don't want to change my ISP.

I understand that router output is limited by law so can 2 routers work together?

I assume that brick walls reduce the signal - maybe I need to re-site my router? (problems problems!)

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Mike

I have homeplugs, so corfate suggestion is pretty good, most homeplugs are limted to 100mps anyway even thought most advertise as higher.

If you want to do down that route, look around to see which brand best suits your needs.

Thanks for the suggestion, I have ordered a pair of TP-Link TL-PA211KIT 200Mbps from Amazon.

Regards to all.

Just a thought,

1. are these fast enough to stream HD?

2. Can I connect a free lan port on my router to the HomePlug?

Firstly answer to both, yes they will be belongs you have a good quality house wiring perfetly fast enough, the quality of the signal is down to the quality of your house wiring.

One thing I would have said is try moving the PVR away from the Hifi, the componets inside the Hifi will defintly degrade the Wifi signal, the AMP e.t.c let's of a large maganetic signal which will degrade the strength.

Yes the homeplug's work exactly as said, just like a normal network cable, apart from most of the trip is backhauhled onto your electric wiring system.
