SATA HDD Not recognised

Hi,

I received my new PC today and it ran great while all the updates and drivers were being installed.

I tried to connect a SATA HDD from my old system (using SATA power from the psu and data from the mobo) to move some files over but it isn't recognised. Any ideas?

Is the HDD NTFS formatted?

It is NTFS and it did not show up in disk management.

Does it show in the BIOS? Does it have an OS on it or just data? Does it come from a windows system?

I haven't entered the BIOS - I wasn't sure if checking settings would void the warranty. It came from a windows system - media files mostly, no OS.

Double check in the BIOS. You can do what you like on a PCS machine so long as you don’t damage anything in the process apart from overclocking GPU or replacing the CPU.

Quite likely, yes, not sure if it's configurable but if it is it will be in the BIOS.

Just to update, I went into the bios and could see the SATA HDD, so I went into the advanced bios settings and enabled Hot Plug for the SATA port into which the HDD was plugged, restarted the system and there it was in Windows.
