This might be the most ridiculous use of EU rules on trademark registration I have ever seen.
So apparently now we (the public) could easily confuse Sky and skype and somehow think they are linked in some way.
My favourite part of the judgement was about the cloud-like logo of skype...
"[That] would further increase the likelihood of the element 'Sky' being recognised within the word element 'Skype', for clouds are to be found 'in the sky' and thus may readily be associated with the word 'sky'."
Seriously? They actually used the phrase "clouds are to be found in the sky"...
Not saying Microsoft are some sort of victim, but this just smacks of far overreaching powers being used for rather odd things
