SLI 760s vs 970

Hey guys,

At the moment I have a 760 in my rig, in the next month I'm going to get an i5 and upgrede my GPU.

I was considering getting a new PSU and another 760 (EVGA AC overclocked editions, which are a bit faster than the standard ones), but then realized that a 970 cost the same amount as a 760 and new PSU. Which would be best for performance, SLI 760s or a 970? I'm not worried about the extra heat or noise, just performance.

Thanks, George.

The 760's in SLI would roughly equal a GTX 690:

Good benchmark of sli 760's below:

keep the 6200 CPU and motherboard and get a 980!

Nah, Did consider it but my motherboard is crap and a 980 would be overkill with my CPU, want to upgrade both at the same time :) I've wanted a new CPU for a while and I'd need a new motherboard for SLI 760s, so I thought I may as well switch my motherboard and CPU at the same time to save money in the long run.

Basically I can spend around £250 on a GPU and PSU (if needed), considering I already have a 760 It makes sense to get another, instead of getting rid of it after 4 months and getting a new one.

It looks like the SLI 760s will be better than the 970 and they work out the same price as each other when you consider I'd need a bigger PSU for the SLI.

I don't think the CPU will be a bottleneck at all. It's still very powerful and in gaming won't perform much different to i5. What I'd do is a shiny 980 now then when you next wish to upgrade you can get an i7 and a good motherboard.

On the subject of SLI, I am not a fan of it unless you are at the point where its the only way to increase performance. For starters some games scale terribly getting only 20% or so boost. Some games you will also be forced to lower settings a lot on release because a common practice seems to be to leave out SLI support on release. Titanfall didn't have it for at least 3 months and had many bugs because of SLI. And then there are the driver issues, I had quite a few myself. Also the heat and power consumption will be much higher than a single card. But thats my opinion.

Yeah, I'll have a think about it, but I ideally want to upgrade my CPU, I know mine is adequate but I've wanted to change my CPU & motherboard for a while, plus I can't justify spending £500 on a single PC part since my PC isn't even worth double that :/

I'll let you guys know what I choose to do
