SONY BD-5730S 6x BLURAY WRITER & CYBERLINK SOFTWARE

Hello all, I think this may have been mentioned once or twice before (cant find threads at the mo), anyway.. I have taken charge of my new laptop and all is good apart from one small niggly problem. ( I havent spoke to tech support as of yet but thought I would try and get a quick fix). Anyway, my Blu Ray player doesnt seem to like Blu Rays. When I insert a Blu Ray disc everything seems fine. The disc loads, I get all the usual copyright warnings and it even goes to the menu screen. When I press play the screen goes grey and all I get is audio. I have had a look at similar threads and it seems that Cyberlink 8 is not compatible with my Blu Ray drive. I was wondering if anyone has a solution to this problem other than purchasing Cyber link 11?. Just a bit reluctant to purchase software for the player when it was provided as part of the deal.

Any help would be appreciated
Many Thanks
Neil

Thanks for the reply. I bit the bullet in the end and just downloaded Cyberlink 11. Wasnt too bad as the soundcard I bought had cyberlink 9 on it so it was just an update. Personally still think that PC Specialist should provide the latest cyberlink software as its like selling a guitar without the strings

Hello,

We could provide the latest software but the cost of the blu ray drive would be much higher. As with all optical drives the manufacturers provide older generation software. This is provided by the software producers very cheaply. The catch being they hope you will upgrade to the latest edition software and pay for it.

So, its not something we can really do anything about. For example the latest cyberlink edition or nero might cost £40 -£50. If we added this to the cost of the drive it would be much more expensive. If no one else in the industry is doing it, and we do then all of a sudden we become much more expensive, and custoners would not understand the reason why and go elsewhere.

It is how its been for donkeys years, and how it will continue to be.

The other reason of course is that the likes of nero , cyberlink etc, rely on new standards for blu ray etc, because it gives them a reason to make new versions and means customers have to upgrade or buy new software.

In summary, out of our hands.

No worries, thanks for explaining it. I was suprised today though as PC Specialist have sent me Cyberlink 10 through the post, wasnt expecting that so I am more than happy.
