Spec advice

Hi there,

Got a five year old rig that I'm planning to replace as there are a couple of games I want which require a much higher spec than my current one.

This is what I've chosen so far

Case: Coolermaster 690 III
Motherboard: ASUS PRIME B250-PLUS
Memory: 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2666MHz (4 x 8GB)
Graphics: 8GB Nvidia GEFORCE GTX 1080 0 DVI, HDMI,3xDP
Power: CORSAIR 750W TXm Series Semi-Modular 80 Plus Gold Ultra Quiet
Processor Cooling: CoolerMaster MasterLiquid Lite 240
Thermal Paste: EK-TIM ECTOTHERM

I don't require a monitor or hard drives as I'll be using my current setup - 2x Samsung SSD and 1 Western Digital HDD as well as a Blu-ray Drive.

Am I right in assuming that all the leads that come with the components are included e.g. leads not used during the build for modular power supplies.

I was also wondering whether any more case fans are required - I can use those from my current case (Coolermaster 690 II)

Thanks in advance

It would be helpful if you could let us know your budget :) and if you are going to be using the PC for just gaming or anything else.

You will be required to order the machine with at least one hard drive, either a normal drive, an SSD or M.2, just find the cheapest one if you don't plan to use it.

Correct all the extra bits that came with the components will be included :)

I'll be using it for gaming which is why I need the upgrade but I'll also be using it for office work and watching films.

I forgot to mention the CPU - Intel Core i7

Got a budget of £2000

The stock fan setup is fine. If you decide you want more fans in the future you can easily source and add some yourself.

You can't order a system without any storage at all (very few people want to, plus PCS need something in there to install Windows + drivers for testing even if you order the system without an OS). What are your current SSDs? Sata ones? M.2 NVMe? What exactly are they?

Assuming they're a pair of Sata SSDs you could get yourself a 256gb Samsung PM961 SSD which is much faster than any of the Samsung Sata SSDs for Windows + programs.

Memory: 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2666MHz (4 x 8GB)
For gaming and the other uses you've described, 32gb is excessive. There's currentluy very little performance difference between 8gb and 16gb RAM for gaming, so 16gb should be more than futureproof. Faster RAM can help in some games quite a lot, so with the 3000MHz being only a few £ more I'd suggest going for that.

CoolerMaster MasterLiquid Lite 240
I'd suggest the non-lite version, as it's only a few £ more and is better.

What make and model is your current monitor?

Lastly, if you want a quiet build for watching movies etc, I'd suggest the Fractal R5 case, the RM850x PSU, and the Noctua CPU cooler.

Philips 234EL 23" - I don't have much room for anything larger at the moment.

Thanks for the advice

Cool. The main reason I asked was that if they were a couple of M.2 SSDs you wouldn't be able to plug them in with a PM961 already there. But since the 2 SSDs you have are both Sata SSDs, a PM961 would be fine.

This is a 60hz 1080p monitor. You could happily drop the GPU down to a GTX 1070, which would be liberally more than enough to run modern games at very high settings. Even the GTX 1060 6gb does very well at 1080p.
