I'm looking for a PC that is capable of playing a mixture of old (Skyrim, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, all modded) and new (Halo MCC, Cyberpunk) games with good FPS (ideally 60+), as well as being able to run Photoshop well and do WFH. My price range is £1500 but this is give or take couple of £100. I would also be looking to use a 1440p 144 Hz monitor with this PC (any suggestions here would be much appreciated, I've heard that the ASUS ROG Strix XG27AQ is the best 27 inch monitor here: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/best/1440p-144hz).

This build seems to meet all my criteria and it came together over several iterations and improvements in that thread, so I assume in some sense it is close to being ideal.

A few questions:
  1. A year ago it seemed that AMD was the best for the CPU; now when I look on some recent spec threads I see that Intel is generally preferred (i.e. i5-12600K). What is the general thinking on this now: is Intel preferred?
  2. What would you improve, if anything, in the PC build proposed above?

The 6600 won't cut it for your uses unfortunately. You would be looking at least at the 6600XT. With that in mind I would go a level up again and aim at the 3060Ti. It'll offer more longevity along with the Nvidia niceties that come along with the brand. Switched a few other things around to make the most of your money.

Hi, I'm not planning to overclock and purely cosmetic features are not necessary, but my pc is usually 24/7 and room gets very very hot in the summer (roof floor). And just generally would you change anything in this setup for gaming purposes?

Heya! Think there's a couple areas we could imporve here, a few questions first

1) What's the budget?
2) What will you be using the PC for?
3) What monitor will the build be paired with (Either make and model or res and refresh would be ideal! Don't want a 3080TI if you're using a 10 year old office monitor ;) )
4) Would you be able to provide the green spec link at the bottom of the page you got the rest of the spec from?

I don't need to see 200 and more frames in games, not playing FPS games, so I think it would be pointless to spend more than 500 on monitor.

Heya! Sorry in the delay in getting back to you, I think generally the cooling aspect needs a bit of a look over so I've made a couple changes to try and acommodate the more beefy cooling requirements you have!

Afraid I haven't kept on the 4K 12-144hz monitor game too much recently so will leave the recommendations for that to someone else.
