Hi!
I'm looking to upgrade my storage as I have relatively slow internet speed and don't fancy uninstalling and re-downloading games depending on what I feel like playing at the time! I have a few games currently installed onto my M.2 SSD drive (which is also what my OS is installed on) which isn't particularly ideal, so am looking to buy an extra SSD to run more intensive games on whilst still taking advantage of the quicker loading times. I'm mostly a novice at PC upgrading but have replaced and installed my new graphics card and added in an exhaust fan myself without too much trouble.
I found a really useful video online (after lots of trawling) that said my TUF B550-plus motherboard has 2 positions which can house an M.2 SSD (one just below the CPU above the GPU and one lower down which has a heat sink bar). PCspecialst installed my current M.2 SSD in the lower position when they sent it over. My plan is to either switch my current SSD to the position next to the CPU and then install a new SSD in the old position with the heat sink which I'll move my games to, or, add the new SSD into the top position and buy a third party heat sink bar if needed.
I've seen different posts saying if I move my OS SSD I would need to update that in my BIOS for my system to boot and another post saying that as long as theres only one drive with an OS on it the BIOS should find it and boot without me having to make any changes, not too sure which one to believe?!
I wanted to ask on here what my best options would be with upgrading an M.2 or if it is just easier to install a SATA SSD. I would also really appreciate advice on which drive would be the best for my rig. I am currently looking at 2 TB options as that should give me more than enough room, at least at the moment! For upgrading it all myself I have a static-free air blower and some static-free brushes that'll use to clean everything before installing (just putting this here in case I'm being overly cautious!)
Thank you so much for any advice!!
Ryan
