Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, another broken port

Thia is a game I really want to play eventually. I haven't finished the first one yet, but love the game.

TLDR: it's a broken mess currently. Barely used most NVidia cards available resources, and is massively flawed with stuttering on most CPUs.

It does appear that the X3D variants reduce stuttering enormously currently, and it plays far better on AMD GPUs.

That doesn't mean you need to change your system, it's like a lot of releases over the last year or so, it's really an alpha that should never have been released in this state and is going to require a lot of patches before it's at an acceptable level. So performance will improve over time

Well, that's saved me £60 🍻

There's even an 'apology' from the creators on the Steam page...

Wasn't sure about this game as I'm not really a Star Wars game fan...but I got a code with my new system so was going to check it out....might claim the code then wait for a bit, although their explaining which systems are affected should not affect me as I have both a high end GPU and CPU running W11
It's only really the X3D chips and AMD cards that are more successful.

Nvidia cards aren't properly provisioned so even on a 4090 it only uses about half the cards performance.

But it does seem to be quite hit and miss across different configs ATM, too many variables performing poorly to really evaluate what's currently required.

The first one was the same issues but not quite as bad at release. But they did eventually sort it but took some time.

But the first can be gotten at a really good deal now, it's worth playing through the series for the storyline, really great game.

I'd love for @Scott to give this a burn on his 7800x3d (can't remember what GPU) although I dont think it's his usual game genre.

Is there a play demo I can run? I think I've got fallen order but I've never really given it a play that I can remember.

Certainly won't be dropping £60 on it haha.

AFAIK, the only way to demo it as such is to sign up temporarily to EA Play Pro, and you can cancel at any time

Sent you a PM

Played for around 3 hours yesterday and was noticing some stutters here and there but nothing game breaking or anything.

Also found out why I was having Titanfall 2 flashbacks...they were both developed by the same company :ROFLMAO:

Even with combat on "Story" difficulty (yes, I'm a wimp!), I am enjoying the game...so much so that I have just installed Fallen order (benefits of a Game Pass ultimate subscription so I play it free). Surprised really given Star Wars games have not really grabbed my attention before
So X3Ds are showing some serious promise, albeit with a broken release.

Possibly? It's difficult to say in my case...I have jumped from a 3600 to the 7800x3D so it's a serious leap...combine that with running the 4090 which is an outlier GPU (as in most people don't have one). I want to say yes? But that's just a feeling rather than "look at this performance". Scott is definitely the better to ask given he is running stuff in VR which is obviously heavily CPU dependent.

I mean, in terms of SW:JS, then it is fine...outside of the badly optimised stuff, it works.
It's not the GPU that's necessarily causing bad performance outside lack of VRAM (aside from Nvidia cards not being fully utilised), but all CPUs outside of the X3Ds have major stutter. It's the 3D V Cache that's improving it on X3Ds.

Hardware Unboxed are working on a major CPU investigation on it now, so we should know more within a couple of days.

In that case, then yes, it's showing promise....as I mentioned, I have only seen the odd stutter here and there and it's only a frame or two at a time.
It backs up what HUB found in their testing, people were hailing them as AMD shills that they must have been paid off to promote a broken game, but from your findings it's absolutely valid.

I realise there's no backstory to this.

Initially Digital Foundry did a piece on the game shortly after release and categorically said it was broken on ANY CPU.

HUB did a piece investigating GPU VRAM allocation for the game to see if it was another than required over 8Gb at 1440p, and sensibly used the 7800x3D as the test CPU (to eliminate GPU bottlenecks as much as possible).

Due to HUB's experience with the game being very much like yours in the fact it clearly needed work but wasn't the stuttering mess that DF claimed it to be highlighted that DF hadn't actually tested the game on an X3D variant (which they later admitted).

HUB called out DF on twitter for misreporting which what you're showing makes it clear was entirely correct, but HUB got huge amounts of backlash for it.

DF should never have stated "All CPUs", they should have been clearer that there were some they hadn't tested, and it's strange that they didn't test an X3D variant anyway in a game review.

I'm a huge fan of DF, they do some superb reporting and usually are first to press on game releases. I don't know the guy who reported the story, either they're knew or something, but it's not normal for DF to drop the ball like that.

I didn't realise a first patch was already out on the game! It's not the full CPU test yet, that's still to come

Just as an aside, I played Fallen order for 8 hours yesterday (really enjoying it)....I keep an eye on temps while I am gaming and, despite playing at 4k, the temp on the 4090 did not change at all from it's baseline (doing things like web surfing etc) of 39 C (according to Afterburner) and neither did the coolant temperature in the CPU cooler change either from 31 C. This is in stark contrast to playing Jedi Survivor where the GPU peaks at around 72 C and the coolant temp reaches 40 C.

Just shows what difference 4 years can make...of course, it also shows in the game size given JS is 2 1/2 times larger, 130GB vs 51GB
Have you had a look at GPU usage while you're playing it, especially in the Coruscant level if you've got that far?

The early reports were that nVidia GPU's weren't being properly allocated, so only ran at about 50% load, would be interested if that's been corrected in this patch.

But, judging by how quickly that first patch was released, and how many issues it addressed in quite a short space of time, at least it appears that EA are serious about getting it sorted fairly quickly which let's face it is unusual for them, so that's a bonus.

Currently downloading Fallen Order to see if I get into it. Managed to get it for a reasonable sum of money, so thought why not.

Cyberpunk isn't doing it for me on the controller, combat is far too hard for my liking :ROFLMAO:

Fallen Order is fantastic. It's exactly my kind of game. The mechanics of the game are perfect for me and it seems the level is increased gradually, which again suits a controller.

I can see me finishing this one :)

Finished Fallen Order. Will need to go back in and see if I can 100% it. It would have taken quite a lot of practise to get through the end without it being on Story mode I think. There's a ton of battles and my combos aren't great. The progression was spot on though, I never felt like I struggled and I think it would be rewarding to increase the difficulty, without being overly frustrating.

Vader is CRAZY powerful in this, unstoppable!

My god, you must have fully binged that! How many hours overall?
