difficult to provide a spec without a budget. I don't know how much you are willing to spend. If you can push over £1200 you could consider a vortex IV with a GTX 980m, over £1900 dual GPUs..... but I personally stick to a single gpu

I asked you for a budget before. You said a gaming laptop on max settings. You can check benchmarks on the gpu and cpu online. If you want to spend less you could drop to the gtx 970m and drop the ssd.

There isn't a budget but surely lesser cards an cpus can handle my requirements? If I can run games full details for like 800£ I can save money don't want any bragging rights or extras ;-]

As you didn't specify a budget and said max settings were needed, the one Keynes has posted is spot on. For what you've specified, you won't get one less than £1250 I'd say.

Don't think there are any bragging rights with a single gtx 980m. If you want to play at ultra settings on an average of 40fps on games like Watchdogs or Crysis 3 you will benefit from the gtx 980m. You may want to check benchmarks online since you are the only one that knows the type of games you want to play and settings you expect. Cpu is not overkill either imo, it is the cheapest 4 core cpu.

Yeah I might have to check benchmarks, guessing this build is too weak then

I am afraid it is. Getting windows professional is overkill for a gaming laptop, no benefits from it.

bit of research http://blog.laptopmag.com/nvidia-gtx-880m-gpu-tested looks like im not far off?

looks like pcs don't offer as wide variety of cpus/gpus for laptops as I cant configure one with a gtx880m or amd/ati radeon gpus, wasn't like that when I brought my pc 2-3 years ago

funny thing though is this: most gtx880m will be the same price or more then the gtx970m that offers PCS, being the gtx970m a 5-10% better than the gtx 880m
if you live outside UK it's even worse though, PCS is easily the cheapest in whole EUROPE, even when including shipping, for clevo gaming laptops and high performance laptops

Not sure they ever offered an AMD cpu on laptops. All gaming laptops for high end gaming from different retailers offer an Intel cpu. The amd cpu is a cheaper alternative. Regarding the gpu they were offering amd CPUs but not since updating the GPUs with the new range of Nvidia GPUs. Also considering some post regarding issues wih amd mobile gpu drivers I would suggest sticking with NVIDIA at least for laptops
