Switching from iMac

Hey folks, I know I should have posted before I bought but im impulsive. Im expecting this to be at least a step up from my current comp but hoping I did made a decent choice.

I felt its overdue time to switch from my old 27" iMac late 2013 to something a bit less outdated, and im switching to pc as I so over not being able to upgrade my hardware.

This comp will be used for a lot of Video Editing as Im a wedding videographer and moderate gaming as Im a Wedding Videographer in a global pandemic :cautious:

GPU was chosen because of availablility

Most of my video editing will be done on my 4k tv so the monitor I chose is just to have one really. Hoping I havent screwed up much as Iv never built a pc before.

Yeah I would recommend cancelling the order and going again mate, the new 11 series CPU's from Intel are a bad choice, you can have a read about it below

If you let us know the budget, monitor and uses we can help you spec something that will suit your needs

If you'd asked for advise before placing your order you'd have been advised against it due to it being intel, read this thread for more info

Right that's a bit disconcerting, how much of an issue is the intel cpu? Its always been my understanding that intel was the choice for video editing. Is it a case of its a bad chip or just not quite as good as Ryzen?

Have a read a the links mate they are not only not as good but they run hotter, use more power wont be able to support up and coming features like SAM (Smart Access Memory) which is going to be a thing.

It's essentially a dead platform at the minute so it's strongly advised that you go a different route around here

Read all the info in that thread, its all explained there, they recently released a new chip and its worse than the previous generation..............

Ok so I gave them a call and made and had a chat with one of their specialists and we made a couple of changes.

Swapped the i7 for Ryzen 7 5800x
swapped 2060 for a Radeon RX 6700 xt
swapped 2tb ssd for 2tb m.2 ssd

so what does the full build look like now

Can you post the whole build mate? Just swapping them out like that doesn't make a whole lot of sense, the R7 5800X is a great choice but I'd like to know what motherboard and cooling you paired with it?

Also just changing a SDD to an M2 doesn't make much sense as you're generally better splitting the storage into an OS drive and storage drive and having two as opposed to one

The 6700XT is a pretty massive step up from the 2060

I'd be concerned the whole build has been thrown out of balance, changes made for the right reasons but I fear you might have fired too quickly

yeah be good to know what motherboard its all on and with what PSU, and exactly what drive configuration, on the latter I'd normally spec a 1TB barracuda HDD for general storage
A 500GB 980 samsung M.2 for the system drive
A 1TB PCS M.2 for the games to go on

So completely different than my first attempt,

I dropped 32gb of Ram temporarily to keep cost down but will deff be putting that back fairly lively

If you have a look at this thread it'll show you how to post a configurable link, it makes it easier to make and see suggestions

I'm not sure what your budget is but for something similar I'd be looking at this, I matched the GPU to the monitor in your selected build. That's a 1080p monitor but the 6700XT is a 1440P card, way overkill for that monitor

I doubt you'd need 64GB, I edit 4K video on my laptop with 16GB, admittedly I have got 32GB in the desktop
